In town when he is well, and
kvhen sicknesß overtook him he
■went to the country ten miles
lout. An associate of his in town
[filed all of his claims and m de
'the collections for him. He got
sick quit frequently. Finally a
suspicion fell on him by some of
the companies operating with
him. A Sunday visit was made
to Beckwith’s country home by,
one of the representatives. Mr.
Beckwith was not at home. He
had b** to called from a nearby
swamp from a lively card game.
He immediately admitted his
trick had been caught up with,
and requested the representative
to not imform the com
panies, but the representative
to’d on him to his brother agents
and hence Beckwith lost with all
of them. This he did not like
and told some of the people about
the companies not paying him.
giving no reasons why they did
not. Yet the lady who accosted
the agent as spoken of above,
admitted she knew nothing of the
cas« —did not even know the man
had formed an opinion of the
matter and taken a< tions with
out hearing a word of the other
side of the case.
All parties concerned that, hear
©f a sick claim of a member or
fiiend being rejected should get
the acutual facts on the matter
before acting. If you were hailed
before a court and they only
heaad your accuser’s side and act
ed without hearing yours, you
would think they were mighty
cruel. It is not enough simply
to hear some one say, ‘‘Such and
such a company turned my claim
down.” If you are honestly in
terested ask your agent, your
manager and hear what they have
t© say about it too. It might have
THE ATHENS REPUBLIQUE
occurred about something you
would not uphold the member in
whatever. and .of course you
would not look for them to bring
that part: certainly not. Insist,
to know all of the facts on both
sides before you form aaopinion.
If you do not insist on all of the
facts, but just part of them it
would be better not to form an
opinion at all. If you take a
membership away from a com
pany on acc’t of a rejected claim,
to be fair then you should cause
them to get at least one for every
hundred they pay. A rule should
work more than one way.
Payment of dues, is the next
subject.
