Swimming: Winder-Barrow High School Swim Doggs prepare for state competition By Chris Bridges Journal Sports Editor Several members of the Winder-Barrow High School swim team will compete at the 2016 state meet Friday and Saturday at Georgia Tech. The Georgia High School Association state swimming and diving championships will begin with preliminaries on Fri day from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. and the finals on Sat urday from 1-4 p.m. Scheduled to compete for WBHS and their events include: •200 medley relay: Jack McDaniels. Bailey Brock, Daniel Mcllwain and Riley Black •200 freestyle: Ian Hen- tenaar •50 freestyle: Bijon Mansour •100 freestyle: Ian Hen- tenaar and Bijon Mansour •200 freestyle relay: Bijon Mansour, Daniel Mcllwain, Jack McDaniels and Ian Hentenaar •400 freestyle relay: Bijon Mansour, Jack McDaniels, Daniel Mcll wain and Ian Hentenaar. High School Basketball: AHS Gainesville too strong for AHS Visiting Gainesville left town with a 75-59 win against Apalachee High School Tuesday night. Kamar Baldwin scored 28 points for the Wildcats (17-5 overall.) Baldwin, already the all-time leading scorer in Barrow County history, set two more school records Tues day night. The AHS senior now holds the school mark for most steals and most rebounds. (See more information in next week’s edition on these records.) Gainesville led 25-19 after the first quarter and 40-28 at halftime. Jabari Hill added eight points for the Wildcats while Ricky Wonzon scored seven. “Tonight, they were just a better team,” said AHS coach Kevin Morris. AHS hosts Discovery High School Friday.
