Sewer spill reported near Winder’s Valleyview Drive
Officials with the City of Winder
Wastewater Treatment Plant report
a minor sewer spill occurring on
Feb. 3 near a tributary adjacent to
Valleyview Drive.
The tributary eventually leads to
Cedar Creek.
Officials said the cause of the spill
was determined to be a blockage in
the gravity sewer main that caused
sewer to surcharge the gravity main
and overflow out of the top of the
manhole.
Approximately 3.00 gallons was
discharged. Corrective action was
taken by immediately clearing
the blockage with a sewer jetting
machine, then using the root cutting
attachment and root cut the interior
of the sewer line. The debris that
overflowed from the manhole was
cleaned up and hydrated powder
lime was spread in the area, officials
said.
