BARROW JOURNAL
PAGE 3B
Lady Doggs continued from IB
The Lady Bulldoggs led 28-26 after the third quar
ter but Flowery Branch regained a one-point lead on a
3-pointer with 6:37 left. After the Lady Falcons added
another basket for a three-point cushion, Lexi Maddox cut
the lead to one point with 5:59 left.
Another 3-pointer by Flowery Branch with 5:14 left
stretched its lead back to four points. WBHS would get
as close as 34-32 after a basket by Perkins with 3:52
remaining but the Lady Bulldoggs could not tie the score
in the fourth quarter.
A basket by Perkins, who finished with 12 points, got
WBFIS to within 37-34 with 1:55 left, but the Lady Bull
doggs would not get any closer.
Watson finished with a team-high 13 points for Wind
er-Barrow.
Both of the Lady Falcons’ 3-pointers in the fourth quar
ter came on 5-on-4 plays as WBFIS had players hurt on
the other end of the court. On both occasions the officials
did not stop play until after Flowery Branch completed its
possession. Those plays turned out to be huge as FBFIS
won by five points. Watson and Perkins were the two
injured Winder-Barrow players although both were able
to return to action.
The Lady Falcons led 12-9 after the first quarter and
22-16 at halftime before WBFIS used a 12-4 run in the
third quarter to take a lead.
Flowery Branch clamped down defensively on Nel-
son-Ododa, allowing the Region Player of the Year just
five points, all from the foul line, Nelson-Ododa was
called for two first quarter fouls, but continued to be
strong on the defensive end of the court with several
blocks. Maddox finished with six points for WBHS.
The Lady Doggs had to return to the court less than 24
hours later to face Gainesville High School in a game to
decide the No. 3 and No. 4 seeds for state from Region
8-AAAAA.
After Friday night’s emotional loss to Flowery Branch,
the Lady Bulldoggs were unable to put together a
game-winning effort despite leading early and fell to
Gainesville 45-36.

Ray Goff wasn’t
sure he was having
a heart attack.
Pain in his arm. A burning sensation in his
chest. Feeling tired. At his doctor’s urging,
he came to St. Mary’s. Fast diagnostics
confirmed a heart attack. Balloon
angioplasty and stent implantation saved
his heart. Now, with the help of St. Mary’s
Cardiac Rehab, he is eating right, exercising,
and feeling better than he has in years.
“My procedure was a success, my care
was excellent, and I was in and out of the
hospital in less than 48 hours. I would
recommend St. Mary’s to anyone.”

Former UGA head football coach
