Mr. Barrier was bom in Hickory, N.C., the son of the late Emcy and Anna Avery Barrier. He was a vet eran of the United States Marine Corps and a mem ber of the American Legion. Mr. Barrier was a retired track driver. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Keen Bar rier, Maysville; children, Karen Barrier, California, Jerri Lynn Barrier, Tennes see, Shelly Zonker, Ken tucky, Tim Barrier, Virginia, Jennifer Nader, Colorado, Mark Barrier, Virginia, Charles Keen, Athens, Tina Neal, Auburn, Corrie Evans, Commerce, and Ricky Bar rier, Athens; a brother, Allen Barrier, North Carolina; and sister, Mary Beach, N.C.; 24 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cody was pre ceded in death by a son, Greg Beck; a sister, Blanche Kinney; and broth ers, Jimmy and Johnny Underwood. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was born in South Carolina, the daugh ter of the late Joseph Coleman Parker and Sarah Dun can Parker. She was the widow of the late Reuben (Tom) Thomas Fitzpatrick, II, of Ila, Ga., and was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Parker and Reuben Parker. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a member of the Ila Baptist Church, where she served as church pianist for over 50 years and a beloved member of the Ila Community for the last 73 years. Survivors include two daughters, Pat Fitzpatrick and Gale Fitzpatrick; one grandson, Reuben (Tommy) Thomas Fitzpatrick, III, all of Ila; and one brother, Sam Parker, South Carolina. March 2, 2016 Jose Garcia COMER - Jose Garcia, 61, formerly of Pagosa Springs, Co., died Satur day, February 20, 2016, at his residence, peacefully asleep. He was a beloved hus band, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Whether you knew him as Joe, John ny, Daddy, or Buelo, he was an incredible man with a giant heart who never met a stranger. He was the son of Juan Fred Garcia and Celi- da Mary Villapando Garcia. Survivors include his wife, Cindy Garcia; chil dren, Jody Garcia Sanchez and her husband, Jesus Sanchez Penaloza, and their two children, Isabel la and Mariana de Jesus, Tashina Garcia Webster and her husband, William Webster, and their two chil dren, Gabriella and Sadie, Nicholas Garcia, and Nakia Garcia and his wife, Crystal Garcia, and their two chil dren Adriel Jose and Jordin, Annette Bauer, and her hus band Bruce Bauer, Steve Patton and his two children, Zoe and Zach; and siblings, Gloria Carpenter, Grace Carpenter, Linda Crusie Lujan, Christine Lujan, Andy Garcia, Joaquin Gar cia, and Marion Villapando. Joe was a retired veteran of the Vietnam War serv ing the Navy 20 plus years. After his retirement, Joe worked several different jobs. It was not until he moved to Comer and started working for Transco did he feel he found the perfect job for himself. Although he was retired, he was proud of his time he served and always said he would go back if he could. He was one of the biggest support ers of his fellow service members and well known for his Veterans’ Memo rial he made outside of his home. Joe faded from us slowly this past year. The ups and downs, the crying and fight ing, the happy days and bad days, but this man was a fighter. This man turned his life around and removed the evil in his life. He gave up on his faith for a while, but he got it back and was able to find peace within him self, his children, friends, family, and most important ly God. Remember Joe for the man he found himself to be and know that he is in a better place. Memorial services were held Thursday, February 25, at Colliers Baptist Church. Maggie was born to the late Harold and Thelma Varnum on October 20, 1934. She was part of a large and loving family as the oldest daughter of 12 children. She was married to the late Bunyon Harri son, Jr. for 60 plus years. She was a faithful member of Hurricane Grove Bap tist Church and actively served in many positions. She was a Deaconess, a Sunday School Teacher, a member of the cooking ministry, and a teacher dur ing VBS; Matron’s Circle, Usher Board Ministry and many more. Maggie, who was affec tionately known as “Darby” and “Nanny” was a very special lady! She was very talented in many areas/ occupations, such as cook ing, gardening, sewing, quilting, cross stitchery, canning, caring for babies, immaculateness, storytell ing, 500 plus piece jigsaw puzzles/assembler, care taker of adults, the Nanny of many non-family chil dren, caring sister, devoted wife, loving mother, and SO MUCH MORE. She was a woman who truly loved the Lord and shared many words of wisdom to others in very colorful stories. She adored her grandchildren and was always her chil dren’s greatest supporter. “Nanny” was preceded in death by her sons, Timothy and Rogers Harrison; and her beloved husband, Bun yon Harrison, Jr. Remaining to cherish her memories are a daughter, Debra Kay Rucker (Steve), Commerce, Gregory Har rison (Debra), Greenville S.C.; grandchildren, Chris topher Rucker (Ashley), Alexis Harrison, and Isaiah Harrison; great-grandchil dren, Korie Kate and Harp er Leigh Rucker; brothers, H.T. She retired as a seamstress and she worked for John Robert Austin's BBQ. Ms. Morris was born in Maysville, the daughter of the late William Bealor (W.B.) and Jesse Sophro- nia Brewer Morris. She lived most of her life in Banks County, but for the past three years had lived at Morningside Assisted Living in Gainesville. Ms. Morris was a member of Hickory Flat Methodist Church, but for the past many years had attended Antioch Holiness Church. They graciously made her a part of their loving fam ily and the love shown by many visits. Lula Belle retired from the Hall Coun ty Government, as the clerk of Probate Court, with 38 years of service. Ms. Mor ris was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Potts Crow Turner; brothers, Tra vis Morris, Jack Morris, and Cleal Morris; niece, Miri am Benton; and nephews, Rev. W.S. Morris and Cecil Potts. Survivors include niec es and nephews, Carolyn White, Gainesville, Bran son (Shirley) Morris, Gills- ville, Jackie (Marie) Morris, Belmont, N.C., Joey Mor ris, Blacksburg, S.C., Janice (Wayne) Lanier, Gastonia, N.C., and Cathy (Grady) Staton, Lula. She had a deep love for the m o u n - tains, painting, and any thing else that struck her fancy. She enjoyed spend ing time with family and friends. March 2, 2016 (622) Diane Roberts Diane Kinney Roberts, 66, died Friday, February 19,2016, at St. Mary’s Hos pice House in Athens, fol lowing a long illness. She was a long time res ident of Athens and was actively involved in the Classic City Pilot Club, serving as a member and treasurer. Diane loved her family and friends, often expressing her love through cooking and baking for oth ers. Diane spent much of her career working as an archivist at the University of Georgia. Survivors include a son, Eugene Roberts, Junior, Jef ferson; brothers, Larry Kin ney, Waynesboro, Ga., and Greg Kinney, Hoschton; long-time companion and friend, Wilson Page, Ath ens; niece, Cory; nephew, Justin; and goddaughter, Lynn Jewell and her family, also of Athens. Mr. Rosenberg was bom in Ches ter, Pa., the son of the late Leon ard King Rosen berg and Evelyn Crossett Rosen berg. Mr. Rosenberg was the executive director of the United States Judo Associa tion and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Morehead, Ky. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, a member of the Jefferson American Legion Post 56, Jefferson Lions Club, and the Kiwanis Club in Morehead, Ky. Survivors include his wife, Alice Clark Rosen berg, Jefferson; and son, William “Bill" Thomas Rosenberg, Jr., Lawrencev- ille. March 2, 2016 Casey Streetman On Friday, February 19, 2016, Casey Lee Streetman left this world to start his journey in the next, met by fam ily and friends that have made their journey before him. Bom on March 25, 1988, Casey immediately made his own impact on this world. As a baby, Casey did not want to sleep much, being happy to just look around at all the glories this new world had to offer. During his time here with us, Casey had a passion for many things. He found joy in his work as a carpen ter and tile setter, as well as his passion for differ ent art projects and hob bies. His love and dedica tion to his “girls", mother, Tracie, and sister, Zoey, was preeminent. For many of Casey’s adult summers, he enjoyed working along side his brother, father, and other volunteers running the beer tent at the Athfest Educates Music Festival. He was employed with Jim Casey Construction, LLC in Athens, as well as doing PAGE 11A-W his own work. He previ ously worked alongside his grandfather and father in their construction business es, learning the trades that he so enjoyed. Casey's love for his fam ily, four legged companion, and his friends was as large as life itself. Casey was preceded in death by his grandfather, the late Johnny H. Hill II. He was a member of the Galilee Christian Church in Jefferson, served as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corps, and was an avid Georgia Bulldog football fan.
