Dumpster diving leads to man’s arrest
Man arrested for public drunkeness after
banging on door, going through the trash
The Winder Police Department
responded to the following recent inci
dents:
•suspicious person on E. Athens
Street; officers responded to a call at the
Winder Customer Care Center of a male
banging on the back door of the business
when it was closed and going through
the trash. He was charged with public
drunkenness.
•report of a cybercrime on Highland
Drive; a property owner stated her rental
property appeared on a website without
her permission.
•warrant service on Wood Avenue;
the subject was taken into custody for
simple assault.
•ordinance violation complaint; a
property owner complained of a towing
company parking vehicles on his proper
ty. The towing company was cited.
•verbal domestic incident on W. New
Street.
•warrant service for probation viola
tion on Wood Avenue.
•fraud on Atlanta Highway, Winder; a
male reported charges being made to his
debit card after using it in the automo
tive department at Walmart.
•domestic disturbance on Capitol Ave
nue. A female struck a male in the fore
head when arguing over tax money.
The female was charged with simple
battery.
•traffic stop on Bush Chapel Drive for
a tag light violation; the driver and pas
senger were charged with possession of
marijuana and cocaine.
•an intoxicated male on Wade Street
was charged with public drunk.
•report of an intoxicated driver in the
Aldi parking lot on May Street; an arrest
was made and the driver, who had dam
age to his vehicle from hitting unknown
objects prior to stopping in the parking
lot, was charged with driving under the
influence, reckless driving, failure to
maintain lane, failure to report an acci
dent and obstruction of law enforcement
officers.
•theft by taking on E. 5th Avenue;
caregivers reported the daughter of the
individual that they help assist has been
taking medications and household items
belonging to her father.
•traffic stop for speeding 58 mph in
a 45 mph zone on S. Broad Street; the
driver was issued a verbal warning and
the passenger was taken into custody for
giving a false name, address or date of
birth to the officer.
•warrant arrest for probation violation
on King Street.
•vehicle accident on Athens Street
and Horton Street; one driver was taken
into custody for driving without a valid
license.
•traffic stop for no tag light on N.
Broad Street; the driver was arrested
for driving without a license and no tag
light.
•abandoned vehicle on E. May Street.
•traffic stop on a bicyclist for no lights
on the bike and riding on the sidewalk;
the bicyclist was taken into custody on
an outstanding warrant charge.
•damage to property on Fairview
Court.
•traffic stop for a tag light violation on
Lee Street; the driver was arrested for
driving on a suspended license.
•traffic stop for failure to dim lights
on King Street; the driver and two pas
sengers were charged with possession of
marijuana.
•damage to property on Venture Way;
a male at the location was taken into cus
tody on an outstanding warrant charge.
The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office
responded to the following incidents:
•motion alarm call on Atlanta Highway
at Tractor Supply; a male and female were
located going through a dumpster behind
the store. The male was taken into custody
on an outstanding warrant charge.
•damage to property on Holiday Drive,
Winder; an out-of-town property owner
reported someone notified her by phone
that an unknown subject had entered her
property and removed items of value and
caused damage to the residence.
•burglary report on Etheridge Drive,
Auburn; items valued at $605 were report
ed missing from a shed.
•theft of lost property on Atlanta High
way, Auburn; complainant reported leav
ing his wallet on top of an ATM machine
at Kenney’s Food Mart and being unable
to locate it when he returned to retrieve
it. An unknown subject had used his debit
card for a $75 transaction.
•complaint on Shadowstone Circle,
Winder; a male reported a vehicle coming
towards him while he was standing in the
cul de sac talking with other men. He
reported that it appeared the driver was
intentionally aiming toward him.
•traffic stop for speeding 87 mph on
University Parkway, Winder; the driver
was taken into custody for driving under
the influence, speeding and failure to
maintain lane.
•dispute on Laurel Lane, Winder; a
female reported her brother who lives next
door had come onto her property and made
marks with orange paint.
•theft on Carriage Drive, Bethlehem;
a chainsaw and backpack blower were
reported missing.
•single car accident on Highway 211,
Winder; the driver was charged with pos
session of methamphetamine, possession
of methamphetamine with intent to distri-
ubute, possession of a firearm by a con
victed felon and possession of a firearm
during the commission of a felony.
•theft by taking on Dee Kennedy Road,
Winder; a water pump and an extension
ladder were reported missing from a shed.
•shoplifting at Dollar General on Gifton
Thomas Road, Bethlehem; a black female
was charged with taking candy from the
store without paying for it.
•stolen property recovered on Carl-Beth-
lehem Road, Bethlehem; a truck reported
stolen from Loganville was located.
•found property on Carl Bethlehem
Road, Bethlehem; a motorist reported
finding a pistol lying on the side of the
road.
•obstruction on Atlanta Highway, Wind
er; a driver was taken into custody after
refusing to exit his vehicle after being
questioned for “off roading” on private
property.
•complaint on Highway 82, Winder; a
homeowner reported the Army National
Guard terrorized him and damaged his
house by having a helicopter hover over
his house causing it to shake and making
him afraid and causing structural damage
to the residence.
•damage to property on Jessica Court,
Winder; a wooden fence was reported
damaged.
•theft on E. Wright Street, Winder; com
plainant reported a missing laptop and
cash after allowing a couple to stay over
night at his residence.
•hit and run on Chateau Forest Road,
Hoschton; a vehicle was reported damaged
when another backed into it.
•theft on Saddle Ridge Drive, Bethle
hem; a soccer goal was reported taken
from a yard.
•fraud on Beringer Drive, Hoschton;
complainant reported a credit card was
opened in his name without his permis
sion.
•shoplifting at Target on Loganville
Highway, Bethlehem; a male was arrested
for taking a phone case.
•damage to mailbox on Ben Johnson
Road, Bethlehem.
•abandoned vehicle on Vintage Way,
Hoschton.
•hit and run on University Parkway at
Loganville Highway, Bethlehem; com
plainant reported being struck from behind
when he stopped at the traffic light. The
vehicle that struck him backed up and fled
the scene. Officers were given a tag num
ber of the vehicle.
•hit and run on Briscoe Mill Road, Beth
lehem; officers made an arrest for a male
driver striking nine mailboxes.
•damage to property on Joseph Griggs
Road, Winder; complainant reported cattle
belonging to someone else came onto his
property causing damages estimated at
$446.
•damage to property on Preserve Lane,
Bethlehem; an unknown person came onto
the complainant’s property and threw a
concrete brick at a window on the front of
the house.
•theft on Smith Mill Road, Winder; a
bag and lottery ticket were reported miss
ing.
•theft by taking on Dooley Town Road,
Statham; complainant reported giving a
cash advance to a male that had agreed to
replace some flooring. The male did not
show up at the agreed time and the com
plainant has not been able to get in touch
with him.
•shoplifting at Dollar General on Gifton
Thomas Road, Bethlehem; the store man
ager reported a black female taking items
valued at $43.82 from the store without
paying. Officers were given a tag number.
•traffic stop for a non-working brake
light on University Parkway and Logan
ville Highway, Bethlehem; the driver was
given a warning and a passenger in the
vehicle was taken into custody on an out
standing warrant charge for a probation
violation.
•shoplifting at Sally’s Beauty Supply on
Loganville Highway, Bethlehem; a store
employee reported a black male put hair
weaves in his pants and walked out of
the store. The merchandise was valued at
$788.94.
•abandoned vehicle on Highway 211,
Statham.
•damage to property on Simeon Road,
Statham; complainant reported damage to
a garage door.
•abandoned vehicle on Amber Ridge
Road, Statham.
•burglary on Lynn Road, Bethlehem;
items valued at $4500 were stolen from an
outbuilding and an unlocked vehicle next
to the outbuilding was entered and a CD
player was reported taken.
•burglary on E. Midland Avenue, Wind
er; the BP Food Mart was burglarized with
cash, cigarettes and beer being taken.
•theft by conversion on Hog Mountain
Road, Winder; complainant stated she had
let her ex-boyfriend borrow her car and he
had let someone else have it in exchange
for drugs.
•theft on Mayweather Drive, Bethle
hem; a homeowner reported the theft of a
delivery of essential oils. A security video
shows a male wearing a ball cap come
onto her property and take the package
from her front porch.
