FUN TIMES WITH FREDDIE
Freddie the Atlanta Falcon brought laughs to Westside students as he danced during their brunch for
lunch celebration Thursday morning.
Breakfast continued from 1A
“We want to make sure every child gets a chance to
eat breakfast so they can start the day off with improved
classroom performance and the energy to perform well,
have better behavior, and achieve more at school,” said
Brad Bowling, Westside Middle School principal.
Bowling noted his new school actually had the lowest
numbers in the district as we began the program.
“He immediately met with cafeteria manager. Kim
Mitchell, and she and her outstanding staff quickly set
about making sure their school became number one in the
State in terms of increasing breakfast participation,” said
McMichael.
This ceremony not only honored Westside Middle
School for its achievment, but also called attention to the
U.S. Department of Agriculture/Fuel up to Play 60 equip
ment grant programs and their goal of equipping schools
in Georgia to serve nutritious meals to more students.

This year, Fuel Up to Play 60, which has provided
more than $22 million in funds to schools throughout the
country, is joining USDA’s effort by providing an addi

application process.
Since 2009, USDA has awarded $215 million in school
nutrition equipment grants to assist schools with creative
breakfast solutions, such as grab-and-go kiosks and
Breakfast in the Classroom.
During Westside's Brunch for Lunch Ceremony a large
group of officials spoke to the students including Atlanta
Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, Atlanta Falcons
mascot ‘Freddie Falcon’ and Falcons cheerleaders, Fuel
Up to Play 60 staff, Barrow County education and nutri
tion officials, local dairy farmers and officials from the
