PAGE 6A BARROW JOURNAL WEDNESDAY, APRIL 13, 2016 Public Safety Reporting on local fires, wrecks and arrests Cell phone store robbery suspects apprehended despite flee attempt On April 7. the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office received an alarm call at approximately 7:26 a.m. at the Verizon Wire less store located at 916 Loganville Highway in Bethlehem. Upon arrival the depu ties determined a burglary had occurred and the Barrow County Sheriffs Office Criminal Investi gations Division was con tacted to respond. The Sheriff’s Office was able to obtain a lead on the suspects and was able to follow the vehicle until it came to a stop at 1879 Five Forks Tric- kum Road in Gwinnett County. With the help of the Gwinnett County Police Department and the Law- renceville Police Depart ment the driver was taken into custody immediately SMARR and the other two passen gers were apprehended by the K-9 unit shortly after they fled on foot. The suspects in this case are Brandon Lee Smarr, 29, of Riverdale, Donald Lawrence. 31, of Union City, and Dankivi- on Chatman, 30. of Atlan ta. All three suspects are currently being held at the Barrow County Detention Center and have been charged with Burglary. CHATMAN LAWRENCE Statham man faces numerous charges after selling meth to undercover officer A search warrant executed on 2nd Street in Statham resulted in the arrest of 39-year- old Danny Clay Parten. Parten had sold methamphetamine to an undercover agent at his residence and the search yielded methamphetamine along with tattoo equipment believed to be used at the residence without the appropriate licensing. Parten’s charges included felony probation violation, operating a tattoo studio without a valid permit, possession of methamphetamine and manufacturing/deliver/sale/distrib- ute/administer/sell/possess with intent to distribute a controlled substance. See Arrests on Page 7A Man arrested for family violence A domestic dispute on Griffith Street resulted in the arrest of 53-year-old Charles Dwayne Smith by the Winder Police Department. Officers were called to the home by a female stating that her husband choked her and said he was going to kill her. She advised dispatch that there was a gun in the home. When officers arrived, they could hear yelling coming from inside the residence and could see inside the front door as Smith attempted to grab a cellphone out of the complainant’s hand. Both subjects gave different stories as to the events that had taken place before the police arrived. It was determined through the investi gation that Mr. Smith had an outstanding warrant from Walton County and since the officers did observe him grab the cellphone in a provoking manner, making contact with the complainant, he was taken into custody and charged with simple bat tery/family violence and the outstanding warrant charge. Intoxicated man demands trip to jail Auburn Police Depart ment officers answered a call on Parks Mill Road in reference to a dispute. The complainant report ed that his brother had been drinking most of the evening and broke a tele vision and a DVD play er inside the residence. When speaking with the complainant’s brother, Reginald Townsend Phifer, 54, of Parks Mill Road, he stated that he did not want the complainant to watch DVD’s on his television so he tossed it on the floor. He became belliger ent with the officer while answering questions and lunged and fell into anoth er officer on the scene. He became even more belligerent and demanded to be taken to jail, accord ing to reports. After being placed in handcuffs, he began kicking at an officer and refused to get in the patrol vehicle. He was secured and transported to the Gwin nett County Jail and charged with disorderly conduct.
