How ever, she retained her feistiness and determination. She loved to play the piano, sing gospel music, and work in her “puzzle books”. She was also an avid coffee drinker and loved honey buns. Funeral services were con ducted on Sunday, May 1, from the Akins Funeral Home Chapel with Shannon Queen and the Rev. Jeff Fair officiating. Music was provided by Shannon and Michelle Queen. Interment fol lowed in the Van Hook Cem etery with the following serving as pallbearers, James Caylor, John Caylor, Angela Caylor, Devin Bell, Mary Beth Harvey, and Courtney Harvey. VaughnL Stiles COMMERCE - VaughnL Grady Stiles, 75, passed away Sat- u r d a y , April 30,2016, following a brief ill ness. He was born June 9, 1940, in Sylvia, N.C., the son of the late Grady Monroe and Mary Gunter Stiles. He was a member of the Maysville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday School and played guitar. He also was a former member of Crystal River Bluegrass Gospel Band, but was presently playing with Shiloh. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Mae Fox Stiles, Com merce; one son, Dwight Stiles, League City, Texas; two daugh ters, Rebecca Stiles, Law- renceville, and Linda Studer, Commerce; three sisters, Faye West, Clayton, Frances Foland, St. Augustine, Fla., and. Mary Ella Smith, Buford; six grand children, Aaron Stiles, Daniel (Stephanie) Stiles, Casundra ( Bruce) Kennedy, Tabitha Pin son, Billy Pinson, and Bran don Pinson; and great grand children, Bianca Stiles, Keilan Stiles, and Ryker Chapman. (476) Virgil Strickland Virgil Lee Strickland, 65, died Friday, April 29, 2016. A native of Winnsboro, S.C., he was the son of the late Doro thy Mae Lewis and Joseph Olen Strickland. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Shane Strickland; daughter, Nancy Carolyn Bradberry; brother, Joe Strickland, Jr; and sister, Jean Bennett. Mr. Strickland was a brick mason in this area for many years. Velma Thompson ROYSTON - Miss Velma Lilia Thompson, 93, passed away on Tuesday, April 26, 2016. Miss Thompson was born in Royston on May 9, 1922. She was the daughter of the late Leonard Walter Thompson and Pearl Phillips Thompson. She was a seamstress having worked for Oxford Industries. Miss Thompson was a mem ber of the New Hope Worship Center in Danielsville, where she was also a charter mem ber. She was preceded in death by her brother, James Alfred Thompson. Mrs. White was born on October 23, 1924, in Holly wood, Ga., the daughter of the late Grady and Connice Hea ton Benfield. She was a charter member and a founder of the Hillside Baptist Church, where she was very active the remain der of her life. Mrs. White and her late husband, Fred, were active in the delivery of meals on wheels for several years. She was also a homemaker, loved gardening and was a lov ing mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone. Mrs. White was preceded in death by her husband, Fred N. White; and son, John Milton White.
