WEDNESDAY, JUNE 8, 2016 BARROW JOURNAL PAGE 7A Caller claiming he shot his father, planted bombs proves to be hoax The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence in The Springs of Chateau subdivision after receiving a call that was transferred from the Jackson County 911 center. A male caller had advised that he had shot his dad and was holding his mother and sister hostage. The caller was demand ing that $50,000 be put on his doorstep. He also stated that there were bombs all over the front yard and he would blow them up if police came to his front door. The caller also stated he was going to shoot himself. The call center was unable to get a call back number or the caller’s name. When officers arrived at the address, they could see an older male reclined in a chair watching television. The officers approached the front door and announced themselves to the subject who then came to the door and let the officers in. The older male, who was the homeowner, asked why they were at his residence. When told about the 911 phone call and asked if he had a son, the man said yes and his juvenile son entered the room and announced he knew what had happened. He advised he had been chatting over social media with a friend and several people had informed him his address had been leaked out. The juvenile also stated he knew of a person (name not given) who frequently did stuff like this, known for making prank calls. The homeowner told the officers that prior to their arrival a pizza delivery guy arrived with several pizzas that he had not ordered. While talking to the homeowner, the officers were relayed information that the subject had called back and stated he had said “not to call the police that the police need to leave the house, he was hiding in the closet.’’ The caller had refused to give his name. After a few more minutes, the officers were told he had called back again and was now stating “why are they here? Make them leave”. And threatened to blow up the bombs. After further interviewing of the home- owner and his juvenile son, officers deter mined the calls were a hoax. After making several turns, the vehicle came to a stop on W. Candler Street and a black male ran from the passenger side of the car into a yard adjacent to the stop. Due to the windows on the vehicle having a dark tint, the officer was unable to see how many other occupants were in the vehicle until he approached it, shining his flashlight into the car. The vehicle was empty and the officer reported immediately run ning towards the suspect through an alley alongside the adjacent house. A second officer arrived and secured the vehicle.
