Mrs. Allen was bom in Rome, Ga., the daughter of the late Allen Pascal and Karl Ophelia Howard Gentry. She was a mem ber of Cabin Creek Baptist Church and was retired from Westclox. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrie Joe Allen; daughter, Amanda Hill; son, Dave Allen; and sister, Anne Gill. Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Jarrett, Gillsville; sons, Andy Allen, Nicholson, and George Allen, Hull; sis ter, Millie Hart, Colbert; ten grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was a member of Brockton Road Baptist Church and was a retired textile worker from Harmony Grove Mills and Mt. Vernon Mills. She will be greatly missed. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Paul Edgar Craig, Commerce; daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and John Murray, Commerce; grandchil dren, Taylor Jones Oren (Chris), Vandalia, Ohio, and Torie Jones, Daniels ville; great-granddaugh ter, Adaline Mae Oren; brother, William Ralph Allen ( Jessie), Commerce; many nieces and nephews; and several grand-nieces and nephews. June 22, 2016 (18360) James “Beau” Mercer Jr. WINDER - James Wes ley (Beau’) Mercer, Jr, 65, passed away at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Atlanta, the son of the late James Wesley Mercer, Sr. and Jimmie Lee Oden. He was a graduate of Bass High School, Class of 1969. Beau’ met his wife in 1993 in Savannah. They were married at Isle of Hope. He was a skillful car penter and a talented musician and singer. Over the years, he toured with the bands Sparkle, Free Wheelin’, Laredo, Round er and Norman’s Bait and Tackle Choir. He enjoyed collecting and refurbish ing antiques. He loved animals, often taking in strays and helped them find forever homes. His faithful companion, Lulu, was by his side as he passed. Survivors include his wife, Lynne Reed Mer cer; brother, Gregory Michael Mercer (Mary), Norcross; sisters, Cynthia Diane Brennan (Terry), San Diego, and Patricia Annette Summerlin (Don ald), Daytona Beach, Fla.; two brothers-in-law, Dennis Reed (Palma) and Douglas Reed (Paula), both of Savannah; six nephews; four nieces; and four great-nephews. She attended Massey Business School, was a realtor with Chapman - Hall Realtors, and a mem ber of the Holly Springs United Methodist Church. Susan led a vibrant and active life, working in real estate, taking trips both domestically and around the world, and was active in her local c o m m u - nity and the world of animal res cue. Susan was the vice president and co founder of Dirt Road Doggies Res cue. Susan loved animals of all kinds, but dogs and horses held a very special place in her heart. Susan never turned her back on a stray. Her family support ed her countless endeav ors to save the broken and forgotten four legged friends for many years. SIMONS ISLAND - Ouida Boyd Walker, 69, formerly of Jacksonville, Fla., passed away peace- fully Tuesday, June 14, 2016, at her resi- d e n c e , with her husband Joe and their son Wes by her side. Ouida was born in LaFayette, Ala., on November 28, 1946. The daughter of the late Rob ert T. Boyd and Glenda Cotton Boyd, Ouida lived much of her formative life in Jefferson. Ouida was a remarkably successful woman, wife, mother, and grandmoth er. Moreover, she was an educator for ten years, and then created successful businesses in both Mas sachusetts and Florida. Ouida, a dedicated com munity leader, served as a Board Member for the Boston, Mass. Junior League, President of the Princeton, N.J. YWCA, and Board Member for the Jacksonville, Fla. Sym phony Guild. Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Joe Walker; son Wes, his wife Susanne, their children Benjamin (12), and Kath erine (10), Bethesda, Md.; sister, Elizabeth Boyd Danis, Hingham, Mass.; and Butterbean, Ouida’s English Bulldog (7). In accordance with her wishes, the immediate family held a private gath ering, after which she was cremated.
