Back to work: Doggs stay on
diamond during month of June
By Chris Bridges
Journal Sports Editor
The Winder-Barrow High
School baseball team didn’t take
much time off following their suc
cessful 2016 season which culmi
nated with a trip to the Elite Eight.
The Diamond Doggs have been
busy on the practice field as well
as with scrimmage games.
In addition, the team embarked
on its annual trek to camp at Mis
sissippi State University, some
thing coach Brian Smith said is
always the highlight of the sum
mer schedule.
“It was another great camp,”
Smith said. “They were preparing
for their Super Regional. It didn’t
affect the camp other than in a
good way. We were able to sit in
on their practices. It was a good
atmosphere and there was good
energy for the players and coach
es involved. Arizona was coming
in two days after we left.”
The Bulldoggs had a chance
to compete against schools from
Florida, Louisiana, Missouri and
several other states. Smith said
it’s always fun to compete against
teams you don’t normally see on
the field.
Following the came, WBHS
returned home and has continued
working.
