COMMUNITY SPOTLIGHT: WINDER NOON LIONS CLUB ANNIVERSARY
Winder Noon Lions Club Celebrates 20
T he Winder Noon
Lions Club was
organized to offer mem
bership for people who
could not conveniently
attend night meetings.
An organization meet
ing was held January 31,
1996 to elect officers and
make plans for the new
club. The organization
and first regular meet
ing of the Winder Noon
Lions Club was held
at the Western Sizzling
Steak House in Winder.
The Noon Club was
Chartered Feb. 7, 1996.
In March 1996, the
WNLC members began FROM THE PAST...

month at 12 noon.
In 2002, the Winder
Noon Lions changed the
meeting days to the sec

For the last 20 years the
Winder Noon Lions have
worked to raise funds

for Lion organizations
and local organizations
by working events such
as: Road Atlanta, ancake
breakfast, pecans sales,
BBQ Cook-off, golf tour
naments and other activ
ities.
Noon Lions have also
been seen collecting
funds outside of local
businesses.
Club members attend
ed a Gwinnett Expo in
order to provide money
for charities. Lions col
lect glasses, hearing aids,
and phones.
Some of the events the
club has participated in
include the canteen at
the blood drive at Bar-
row Medical Center, pro
vided eye screening at
the senior citizen center,
mentored at the Boy and
Girls Club, gave blood
and bone marrow, record
ed books on the Reading
for the Blind and volun
teering at the Northeast
Georgia Food Bank.
The club recogniz
es Outstanding Juniors,
at Barrow schools, public
safety officers, band stu
dents, provide the third
grade students with dic
tionaries, donate toys to
the Empty Stocking Fund
Drive, provide flags for
the 9/11 Memorial cer
emony, provided glass
es for middle school
students and recognize
Peace Poster winners
annually.
