with the win.
“Cody threw a good ball game,”
he said. “We played good defense
and we hit just enough. I won’t
say we were comfortable, but we
hit good enough to win. We didn’t
hit great, but we managed to get
enough offense to make it difficult
for [Duluth] anyway.”

“We had a lot of shots,” Cubbage said. “The kids were
really excited and the adrenaline was flowing. That was a
team we had to beat.”
Tuesday’s game proved that anything can happen in
the playoffs, Cubbage said.
“The kids played a great game tonight. It was prob
ably one of the best games we have seen them play,” he
said. “They really played well and we’re all very proud
of the kids. They did great.”

base and took advantage of errors, it
was Jackson County's performance
at the plate that was the key.
“We haven’t played very well
defensively in the last two games,"
said Fountain. “We did a good job
at the plate again [Monday] in the
early innings, but we have to play
better defensively and someone has
to step up and get some clutch
hits.”
Despite having bases loaded
with no outs on the board, Jackson
County just could not, make decent
contact with the ball.
“There is no reason for loading
the bases with no outs twice and not
getting any runs in," Fountain said.
“I think part of last night was the
weather and part of it was we strug
gled throwing strikes early and our
guys got on their heels defensively.
But it's just another example of not
being consistent yet in all phases of
the game. We seemed to give out
of gas after we came back from the
early deficit. They kept giving us
chances to do more damage, but we
didn’t seem like we had anything
left in the tank.”
Unable to bring the runners home,
the Panthers lost 11-7.
The next game for Jackson
County is against Cedar Shoals. The
Panthers will set Trevor Booth on
the mound. According to Fountain,
the Panthers should win the game
against Cedar Shoals since that
team has been struggling. The game
is Wednesday, March 26 at home.
