MEDIA SPECIALIST OF THE YEAR
Mill Creek High School principal Jim Markham presents Julie
Hatcher with the Media Specialist of the Year award during a sur
prise ceremony Thursday at Mill Creek High School.
MCHS’ Hatcher named GCPS
media specialist of the year
BY KRISTI REED
Mill Creek High School media specialist Julie Hatcher was honored as
Gwinnett County Public Schools" (GCPS) media specialist of the year dur
ing a surprise ceremony Thursday at Mill Creek.
Hatcher, a GCPS employee since 2001, was honored for her leadership
qualities and innovative techniques. Hatcher holds a bachelor's degree in
Education, a master's in Library Science, and is currently working on her
doctorate in Instructional Technology.
Faye Curlee, Director of media services and technology training for
GCPS, presented the award. Curlee said Hatcher was selected based on
“how she promotes literature with the students and her involvement not only
at the local level, but at the district level and the state level in promoting
literature.''
Curlee explained that teachers, administrators and parents may submit
nominations for the award. The nominees must complete an application
which is presented to a selection committee for review. This is the fourth
year GCPS has honored the school system’s top media specialist.
Hatcher said she was excited and shocked to win the award.
“I have a great job and great people I work with. Mr. Markham is very
supportive of our department," she said.
