Boys and Girls Club celebrate new charter
K ids, staff, parents and
board of directors were
on hand recently at the
two units of the Jackson County
Boys and Girls Clubs in Jefferson
and Commerce for a ribbon-cutting
ceremony.
Although, the Jackson County
Boys and Girls clubs have been
in existence since June 2003, the
day was a celebration because the
clubs have established their own
charter from the National Boys
and Girls Clubs of America.
“This is an exciting day for the
Jackson County Boys and Girls
Clubs,” said executive director
Michael Williams. “Now that we
are able to have our own charter,
we no longer need to depend on
the Hall County club, under which
we were operating. With the help
of generous supporters in our com
munity and local businesses, we
have successfully obtained a char
ter of our own.”
“We have been so fortunate to
receive such a huge outpouring
of support from the people of
Jackson County,” said board presi
dent Bo Braswell. “We were con
fident enough of our communities
to be able to go and obtain our own
charter, because we knew our citi
zens would support us. Our deep
est appreciation goes to everyone
who believes in our cause.”
“We serve over 300 kids during
our summer programs and this is a
very expensive time of year for us.
Without the help of Hall County
now, we have decided to have
our most-successful fund-raiser in
the spring rather than in the fall,”
Braswell added.
The annual Boys and Girls Club
auction will be held on Friday,
May 2, at the Commerce Civic
Center. A catered steak dinner
will be available, as well as a cash
bar. There will be 20 live auc
tion items and many silent auction
items ranging from sports memo
rabilia to gift certificates and vaca
tion homes.
For more information about the
Jackson County Boys and Girls
Club, the summer programs or
the auction, contact Williams at
