BY KRISTI REED
Mill Creek’s tennis teams ended the
regular season on Thursday with wins
against Grayson.
The Hawks now turn their attention
to the region 7-AAAAA tournament,
scheduled to begin April 15 at the
Hudlow Tennis Center in Norcross.
The Lady Hawks (17-1, 8-0) enter
the tournament as the No. 1 seed. The
boys (11-7, 6-2), begin play as the No.
3 seed.
LADY HAWKS WIN
The Lady Hawks scored another
win last Tuesday with a 6-4 victory
over Northview. Bailey Dodge led
the Lady Hawks with a win at No. 1
singles. Michelle Yau picked up a win
in the No. 3 slot with Kristy Yau and
Nela Handac winning the No. 4 and
No. 5 singles matches.
Dodge and Stacy Mottesheard
picked up a win in the No. 1 doubles
match. Kristy Yau and Handac scored
another point for Mill Creek at No. 2
doubles.
On Wednesday, the varsity boys
faced Northview. Though the Hawks
did not win. Mill Creek head coach
Tim Schroer said the matches were
competitive.
“We played up to their ability level,’’
Schroer said. “Our kids played really.
really well, but we just didn’t close
out the crucial points in crucial situ
ations.’’
CLEAN SWEEP
The Hawks played their last home
match of the season on Thursday. The
boys’ team swept Grayson, winning all
five matches.
Jordan Arenas led the Hawks with
a win at No. 1 singles. Anthony Agee
won the No. 2 singles and Christian
Gonzales picked up the win in the No.
3 slot.
Taylor Lacy and T. J. Mullins won the
No. 1 doubles match. Tony Tamborino
and Lee Mike Turner combined for the
No. 2 doubles win.
The Lady Hawks also scored a deci
sive win with their 4-1 victory. Dodge,
Mottesheard and Kristy Yau swept the
singles matches. Michelle Yau and
Handac won the No. 1 doubles match.
REGION TOURNAMENT
Schroer said recent matches such
as Westminster and Northview were a
good opportunity for his team to pre
pare for the region tournament.
“Scheduling these last matches of
the season was intentional to put us
in the position to see some similar
ability as we get ready for the region,’’
he said. “I feel good going into the
tournament.’’
