Ronald Shay
Braselton
Ronald N. Shay, 71, of Braselton,
died Tuesday, April 1, 2008, following
an extended illness.
He was retired from TRW-MRC in
Jamestown, N.Y., after 30 years, and
then transferred to Flowery Branch in
1985. He also worked with Teledyne
CAE for four years in Gainesville
and for Makita Tools in Buford for 14
years as procurement manager. He was
very active in church and loved singing
with the church choir and the Voices
of North Georgia. He loved coach
ing little league baseball and helping
with the boy scouts and Good News
at Noon. He loved golf and his job
at Johnson High School very much,
loved ones stated.
Survivors include his wife of 49
years, Carol Shay: sons and daugh
ter-in-law, Douglas M. and Kathleen
Shay, Evergree, Colo., John W. Shay
and fiance, Carolyn, Heber City, Utah;
daughter, Martha A. Shay, Braselton;
brother and sister-in-law, Daniel B.
and Lauri Shay, Lakewood, N.Y.; sis
ters, Pamela J. Shay, Jamestown, N.Y.,
Donna K. Lent, Calif.; grandchildren,
Joshua J. Shay, Kaitlin E. Shay, Olivia
C. Shay, Benjamin A. Shay; and sev
eral nieces and nephews.

Thomas Medders
Winder
Thomas F. Medders, 56, of Winder,
died Thursday, April 3, 2008.
He was the son of Martha Louise
Black of Loganville and the late Jessie
Frank Medders. He was a forklift oper
ator with Southeast Culverts and was
an avid NASCAR fan.
Survivors in addition to his mother,
include his wife, Patricia D. Medders,
Winder; a son, Frank Medders,
Winder; step-children. Bill Reynolds,
Indiana, Jason Medders, Wyandotte,
Mich., and Jamie Keresie, South Gate,
Mich.; three grandchildren; and sisters,
Deborah Holtzclaw, Loganville, and
Dee Ann Wood, Buford.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
April 6, at Smith Memory Chapel with
the Rev. Dave Stroup and Tim Mackie
officiating. Cremation followed the
service.

Dorothy Kiebler
Winder
Dorothy Sanchez Kiebler, 81, of
Winder, died Saturday, April 5, 2008.
She was bom in New York State, the
daughter of the late Frances Bazewitz
and Ralph Sanchez and was a home
maker and was Roman Catholic.
Survivors include daughters, Karen
Perrella, Jefferson, and Kathryn Valiky,
New Jersey: sisters, Elaine Morrow
and Barbara Sanchez: and brother,
Ralph Sanchez.
Memorial services will be held at a
later date in New Jersey.
Evans Funeral Home, Jefferson, is in
charge of arrangements.

Willie Clark
Hoschton
Willie Clark, Jr., 74, of Hoschton,
died Sunday, April 6, 2008.
Bom in Jackson County, he was the
son of the late Willie Clark Sr. and
Emma Pope Clark. He was a retired
farmer, a member of the Hoschton
First Baptist Church and the Rockwell
Lodge. He was a
Shriner, and member
of the 136 Eastern
Star, the American
Legion, the
Disabled Veterans
Association, and the
Veterans of Foreign
Wars. He was a vet
eran, having served in
the United States Navy
during the Korean War.
Mr. Clark was preced
ed in death by a son, Mike Clark.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria
“Priss” Ann Allen Clark, Hoschton:
sons and daughters-in-law, Mitchell
and Kay Clark, Hoschton, and Marty
and Cyndi Clark, Jefferson; a sister,
Jeanie Raney, Athens; seven grandchil
dren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, April 9, in the chapel
of Evans Funeral Home with the
Revs. Marshall Dale, Mac Teasley
and Ricky Thrasher officiating. Burial
was in the Hoschton City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Clark, Derek
Clark, Dustin Clark, Chris Howard,
Lane Watson and Jimmy Meadows.
Honorary pallbearers were Stephens
Meadows and Will Clark.

Ernest Perkins
Winder
Ernest Marion “Major" Perkins,
75, of Winder, died Sunday, April 6,
2008.
He was the son of the late Ernest
and Emily Bell Sims
Perkins, and was a j
member of Covenant
Presbyterian Church
in Athens. He was a
veteran, having served in the United
States Navy during the Korean War
from 1952 to 1956. He was a graduate
of Bogart High School and was retired
from North West Airlines as a station
manager.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra
Hammond Perkins; sons and daugh-
ters-in-law, Jeff and Tiffany Perkins,
Bartlett, Tenn., Ernie and Sherry
Perkins, Temple; daughters and sons-
in-law, Jackie and Ricky Hayes and
Susan Price, all of Winder, Emily and
Bill Watson, Moreland, Kellie and
Sam McCullough, Durango, Colo.;
15 grandchildren; four great-grand
children; sisters, Miriam O'Kelly and
Jean Kittle, both of Winder.
Funeral services were held
Wednesday, April 9, at Smith Memory
Chapel with the Revs. Mark Harper,
Beecher Mathes and Wade Thomas
officiating. Burial was in Hebron
Christian Church cemetery.

Marshall Yarbrough
Colbert
Marshall W. Yarbrough, Sr., 72, of
Colbert, died Tuesday, April 1, 2008,
at his residence.
Bom in Greensboro, he was the son
of the late Dewey Webb and Sybil
Gunter Yarbrough. He
attended the University
of Georgia and was
retired from Sears
as a sales manager.
Mr. Yarbrough was a veteran, hav
ing served in the United States Navy,
and was a member of Antioch Baptist
Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly
Ann Yarbrough; sons and daughters-
in-law, Marty and Becky Yarbrough,
Hull, Doug and Michelle Yarbrough,
Winder; brother, Waymon Yarbrough,
Elberton; grandchildren and spouse,
Brandon and Christy Yarbrough, Alex
Yarbrough; great-grandchildren, Lee
Yarbrough and Claire Yarbrough.
Funeral services were held Friday,
April 4, in the chapel of Lord &
Stephens Funeral Home with the Revs.

ing. Burial was in Carlton Cemetery.

Matthew Trotter
Gainesville
Matthew Joel Trotter, 24, of
Gainesville, died Thursday, April 3,
2008, at St. Mary's Hospital in Athens,
following injuries received from an
automobile accident.
He was bom in Hall County, the
son of Jimmy and
Barbara Bolding
TrotterofGainesville.
He was a gradu
ate of Gainesville
High School, where
he was a starter for
the football team,
and was a student
of the University of
Georgia. He loved to fish, participating
in fishing tournaments, hunt, and loved
all sports, especially the University of
Georgia football, loved ones stated.
He was co-founder of the Zeta Psi
Fraternity. Mr. Trotter was preceded in
death by grandfathers, Grady Trotter
and Ben Bolding.
Survivors in addition to his parents,
include a sister, Jessica N. Trotter,
Gainesville; paternal grandmother,
Evelyn Trotter; maternal grandmother,
Kathy Tench, Gainesville; and a host
of aunts, uncles, family and friends.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
April 6, in the chapel of Memorial
Park Funeral Home with the Revs.
Terry Garnish, Tim Reed and Eddie
Wiggins officiating. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ricky Archer
Gainesville
Ricky James Archer, 54, of
Gainesville, died at Northeast Georgia
Medical Center in Gainesville, follow
ing injuries received in an automobile
accident.
He was a native of Hall County, the
son of the late Jeanette Kidd Archer
Savage. He was Baptist and attended
the Hub Church in White County.
Survivors include a son and fiance,
Shawn Archer and Sloane Seagraves,
Gainesville; daughter and son-in-law,
Tammy and Lee Austin, Cleveland;
daughters and fiances, Stacey Archer
and Bobby Tucker, Murrayville,
and Samantha Archer and Nucoma
Grindle, Cleveland; daughters, Misty
Archer, Gainesville, and Gina Archer,
Cleveland; seven grandsons; brother
and sister-in-law, Steve and Kimberly
Archer, Gainesville; step-father, Cliff
Savage, Gainesville.
Funeral services were held Sunday,
April 6, at Harmony Street Baptist
Church with the Rev. Willard Thomas
officiating. Burial was in New Holland
Cemetery.

‘Bud’ Rowden
Bogart
Gaston “Bud” Rowden, 72, of
Bogart, died Thursday, April 3, 2008.
He was bom in Oconee County,
the son of the late Talmadge Scott
and Myrtice Craft Rowden. He was
a member of Calvary Baptist Church,
and was a master plumber until his
retirement, at which time he started
Bud Rowden Trailer Sales, which he
sold two days before his death. He
continued to own and operate Bud's
Farm Equipment.
Survivors include his wife, Marie
Floyd Rowden, Bogart; a son and
daughter-in-law. Dale and Donna
Rowden, Farmington; daughter and
son-in-law, Kay and Jim Wadley,
Statham; step-daughters, Deborah
Sheridan, Winder, and Sheila Manter,
Lake City, Fla.; grandchildren, David
Wadley, Eric Rowden, Brett Rowden
and Amanda Wadley; great-grandson.
Jack Wadley; step-grandchildren, Chris
Savage, Kendra Banks and Nicole
Sheridan; and step-great-grandchil
dren, Trey Makinsey, Jacob Sheldon,
Mason, Logan and Brandon Banks;
brother, Jimmy Rowden, Bogart; sis
ters, Martha Hays, Marita Skinner and
Eudene Perkins, all of Winder, and
Shirley Baird, Braselton.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
April 5, at Smith Memory Chapel
with the Revs. Ronnie Healan and
Don Warren officiating. Burial was in
Barrow Memorial Gardens.

Marjorie Fowler
Lawrenceville
Marjorie H. Fowler, 73, of
Lawrenceville, died Friday, April 4,
2008, following a brief illness.
She was bom in Newton, N.J. and
lived in the metro Atlanta area for the
past 30 years. She was an accountant
with Law Engineering and a member
of the Dacula First United Methodist
Church. Mrs. Fowler was preceded
in death by brothers, Duane Hull and
Ward Hull; and a sister, Genevieve
Hill.
Survivors include her husband,
John Fowler, Lawrenceville; children
and spouses, Jill and Ric Waddell,
Lawrenceville, Lori Williams and
Bradley and Jennifer Fowler, all of
Dacula; grandchildren, Brian and
Carrie Waddell, Amanda Waddell,
Haley Daniels; sisters, Mary and
George Johnson, Hoschton, Muriel
and Bob Pfeifer and Alvene Andrews,
both of New Jersey: and several nieces,
nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
April 8, at Hamilton Mill Memorial
Chapel with the Rev. Matthew Mitchell
officiating. Burial was in Hamilton
Mill Memorial Gardens.

Ila Baty
Ila Louise Bellamy Baty, 98, of
Royston, died Saturday, April 5, 2008,
at her residence.
She was bom in Franklin County on
August 10, 1909, the daughter of the
late Jess Bellamy and Myrtie Whiten
Whitworth. She was a homemaker and
was the oldest living member of the
Riverside Baptist Church, where she
was a member for 63 years, and served
as a Sunday School teacher for 45
years. Mrs. Baty was preceded in death
by her husband, Horace E. Baty.
Survivors include a son, James Baty,
Bold Springs Community; daughters,
Frances Gilreath and Agnes Cape, both
of Royston, Edna O’Conner, Marietta,
Helen Williams, Westminster, S.C.,
and Ann Hill, Winder; 14 grandchil
dren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 14
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday,
April 7, in the chapel of Pruitt Funeral
Home with the Revs. Roger Elrod and
Travis Williams officiating. Burial was
in the Franklin Memorial Gardens-
South.

Jewell Gryder
Gainesville
Jewell Daniel Gryder, 86, of
Gainesville, died Tuesday, April 1,
2008, at St. Mary’s Hospice in Athens,
following an extended illness.
He was bom in El Dorado, Ark.,
the son of the late Daniel C. and
Bessie Adcock Gryder.
He was retired from
Burke Industries and
was a veteran, having
served in the United
States Navy, retiring with 20 years of
service.
Survivors include his wife. Page
Carrington Gryder, Gainesville; daugh
ter, Dabney Vaughan, Gainesville; son,
Carrington Gryder, Lilbum; grand
daughters, Dara Vaughan, Athens, and
Astra Vaughan, Johannasburg, South
Africa; brother, Robert Gryder, El
Dorado, Ark.; and a host of family and
friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday,
April 8, in the chapel of Memorial
Park Funeral Home with Father Wells
Graham officiating. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery with full
military honors and

‘Bob’ Lackey
Gainesville
Robert “Bob" Reece Lackey, 83, of
Gainesville, died Friday, April 4, 2008,
at Northeast Georgia Medical Center
in Gainesville, following an extended
illness.
He was bom in Jackson County,
the son of the late Robert Jefferson
and Maggie Lee Seabolt Lackey. He
graduated from Braselton High School
in 1943 and moved to Gainesville. He
was a longtime member of Hill Crest
Baptist Church, worked for Piggly-
Wiggly Stores from 1941 to 1945,
Big Star and Colonial Stores from
1945 to 1971, where he retired from
the Gainesville store after 36 years of
service. He then worked for Big Star
in Atlanta and Chattanooga, Tenn. He
taught meat school at those stores.
Following retirement, he managed two
motels in Helen, The Alpine River
Lodge and The Econo Lodge, and
was also involved in the selling of real
estate for 32 years. He was a member
of the Gainesville Elks Lodge since
1959.
Survivors include his three closest
friends, Dr. Lewis Lord, Dr. James
Hatcher and special long time friend,
Shirley Smith; certified nursing assis
tant, Sherry Presley: and caregivers,
Tara Presley and Shane Presley.
Funeral services were held Saturday,
April 5, in the chapel of Memorial Park
Funeral Home with Dr. James Hatcher
and Dr. Lewis Lord officiating. Burial
was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made
to the Baby Emma Presley Fund.

Winder
Marilyn “Sue" Shipman, 75, of
Winder, died Sunday, April 6, 2008.
She was bom in Valusia County,
Fla., the daughter of the late Breece
E. Bennett and Pauline Simmons
Edwards. She was a member of the
Red Hat Society and was Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, James
Henry Shipman, Sr.; sons and daugh
ters-in-law, Richard Dean Shipman,
Albuquerque, N.M., Terrance Lee and
May Shipman, Winder, and James H.
Shipman Jr. and Ann Shipman; daugh
ters and son-in-law, Sherry and Roger
Schriner, Braselton, and Vicki Hales,
Winder; eight grandchildren; six great
grandchildren; a brother, Breece E.
Bennett Jr., Oak Hill, Fla.; and a sister,
Barbara J. Ward, Hendersonville, N.C.
Graveside services will be held
Friday, April 11, at 11 a.m., at Barrow
Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Roger
Hardy officiating.
