Hoschton
Hoschton interviewing for new city clerk
BY KERRI TESTEMENT
Hoschton is still searching for a
new city clerk — and has a large
pool of qualified candidates vying
for the position, according to the
mayor.
Mayor Bill Copenhaver said
Monday that Hoschton has received
23 applications to fill the posi
tion left vacant when Cindy Edge
resigned as city clerk on Feb. 18.
Edge had been a city employee for
28 years.
By the end of last week, the
council’s city clerk search commit
tee had interviewed six candidates,
Copenhaver reported. City offi
cials are expected to conduct more
interviews.
“We've got some very good
candidates," Copenhaver said on
Thursday.
The Hoschton City Council
hopes to name a new city clerk in
May, he added.
While the city council continues
its search for a new city clerk, two
other clerks at city hall are earn
ing a 25 percent temporary wage
increase. That pay increase can be
extended up to four weeks after a
new clerk is named, the council
decided last month.
Copenhaver recently said Edge
was helping the two clerks on a
part-time basis.
Election
McIntyre announces for Barrow Clerk of Court
Regina Brock McIntyre has announced that she plans
to run for Clerk of Court in Barrow County this year
on the Republican Primary ballot. She worked in the
Clerk’s office for 18 years, the last seven of which she
served as Chief Deputy Clerk.
McIntyre resigned from the office to run for the Clerk’s
position in 2004 and since that time has been working in
the Barrow County Leisure Services Department.
“During my last campaign and while speaking to peo
ple since then, I have learned even more of what the peo
ple of Barrow County want and expect from the Clerk’s
office," she said. “Those needs are simple yet essential.
(1) File, accurately record, and return documents in a
timely manner. (2) Make everyone feel welcomed and
respected when entering the office. (3) Assist people
with their records. (4) Listen and assist when there is a
problem. Basically, those needs are service...service...
service. It is true that the office cannot give legal advice,
but that office can serve and assist."
The Primary election will be held on July 15.

the facility, he added.
The building was occupied by Sears, before it relo
cated to a Pendergrass facility in August 2007.
Watson said PETCO’s Braselton building cannot be
expanded. Tractor Supply is located a short distance on
Hwy. 124 from the facility.
Other major distribution centers in the area include
Haverty’s, The Home Depot and Whole Foods, and
Mayfield Dairy.
“This announcement is especially ‘sweet’ in today’s
fierce, volatile economy,” Linda Moore, vice presi

firms that have recognized the attributes of the area.”

site.
“We are very pleased to be locating our new facility in

take great care of their pets by providing them with our

nomic development partners in 2005. Key partners who
helped secure the logistics deal included the Georgia
