Community calendar Hoschton Baptist plans Easter egg hunt on April 15 Hoschton Baptist Church will be hosting an Easter egg hunt after its Good Friday service on Friday, April 15, at 7 p.m. The community is invited to attend. Braselton Seventh Day Adventist plans diabetes seminar Braselton Seventh Day Adventist Church-House of Prayer will be hosting a "Diabetes Sweet Danger Seminar" on April 16 and 30. Braselton Antique and Artisan Festival set for April 22-24 The next Braselton Antique and Artisan Festival will be hosted April 22-24 on Harrison St. in downtown. Over 350 vendors and at least 12 food vendors are expected for the three-day event. The festival will include live music and drink tents. Admission, parking and shuttle service for the event are free. New Liberty United Methodist Church hosting annual BBQ fundraiser New Liberty United Methodist Church will host its annual BBQ fundraiser on Friday, April 29. "Come help support New Liberty that afternoon by buying a plate or two," organizers said. Plates cost $10. Both cash and card accepted. The church is located at 17 Thompson Mill Road in Bra selton. Toast of Braselton scheduled for May 12 The annual Toast of Braselton fundraising event is slated for May 12 from 6-9 p.m. at the Braselton Civic Center. Tickets include a buffet dinner, wine and beer, entertainment, a silent auction and a live auction. Organizers have announced a prohibi tion-era theme for this year's event. The Toast of Braselton is hosted by the Braselton Downtown Development Authority. Proceeds benefit the Braselton DDAand the Braselton Main Street programs. Next Braselton library friends set book sale for Sept. 22-24 Friends of the Braselton-West Jackson Library will host its next "giant" book sale Sept. 22-24 in historic downtown. Housed in the community room at 5040 Highway 53, the sale runs 9:00-6:00 on Sept. 22 and Sept. 23, and from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24. Proceeds benefit programs and holdings of the Braselton Li brary on Brassie Lane. Braselton announces 2022 'Movies Under the Stars' dates The Town of Braselton has announced its 2022 schedule for its "Movies Under the Stars" series on the town green. Movies will be shown May 21, June 11 and July 23. Admission is free. Concessions will be available starting at 7 p.m. Movies will start as soon as it gets dark. Downtown restaurants will offer to-go dinners and beverages. The town will announce the movie titles for each date when they're confirmed. Braselton Concert on The Green dates announced for later this year Concerts on the Braselton Town Green for 2022 will be held Aug. 20 and Sept. 17 from 7-10 p.m. The musical acts have not yet been announced. "Music lov ers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets and enjoy this fun, free event," organizers News briefs BRASELTON Braselton accepting citizens academy applications The Town of Braselton is now accepting applications for its government citizens academy program, according to a press release. “The Town of Braselton Government Citizens Academy pro gram is a unique opportunity for citizens to develop a better understanding about Town of Braselton government,” town of ficials said in the press release. Each month covers a different topic related to a town service provision. The citizens academy begins in May and runs for six months. Classes meet on the third Thursday of each month from 6-8 p.m., except October, during which classes ran until 10 p.m. Tours and other opportunities are included in the curriculum. Space is limited to the first 10 qualified applicants. “The classes fill quickly, so don’t delay.” officials said. GWINNETT CO. Gwinnett school employees to receive $2,000 one-time salary supplement this month Gwinnett County Schools Superintendent Calvin J. Watts recently announced a $2,000 one-time salary supplement for all permanent full-time and part-time Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) employees, which will be paid in the April payroll. Gov. Brian Kemp announced in March that a $2,000 bo nus would be provided to specified groups of school staff as part of his mid-year budget amendment for the FY2022 state budget. Watts has determined that GCPS will extend the payment of $2,000 to all permanent full-time and part- time employees. In total, almost 22,000 GCPS employees will receive this one-time salary supplement. “I applaud the state’s recognition of the outstanding work that is taking place throughout our school district,” Watts said. “In particular, I am grateful for the state’s recognition of our teachers and the many other professionals who work, day in and day out, to support teaching and learning. Our district appreciates this gesture from the state and felt it ap propriate to extend this ‘thank you’ to all of our employees for their hard work and dedication to each and every one of our students.” In Gwinnett, all benefit-eligible employees who are ac tive as of March 16. 2022, will receive the one-time $2,000 payment in their paycheck at the end of April. Retirees who currently work part-time (.49) will receive $980. BRASELTON Downtown Braselton cleanup day ahead April 30 A cleanup day for downtown Braselton is scheduled for April 30 from 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. According to organizers, teams of volunteers will be assigned different areas of downtown to pick up trash. Volunteers will check in at the gazebo on the town green locat ed at 9924 Davis St. Supplies will be provided, along with coffee and doughnuts. Volunteers will receive a t-shirt while supplies last.
