Southeastern Bran Tumor Foundation hosting
pkkleball tournament in Hoschton
The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation is host
ing a charity pickleball tournament, "Pickleballin' for
Brains," at the Cresswind Twin Lakes pickleball facility
in Hoschton Nov. 11-13.
Age groups are as follows: open, 50-and-up, 60-and-
up. Levels are 2.5,3.0,3.5,4.0 and 4.5.
Registration includes one event, a T-shirt, water,
snacks and gift items.
Medals will be awarded to the top three placers in
each age and skill level. The event will include food
trucks, vendors and raffles.
Participants are asked to early register by Oct. 28 at
11:59 p.m. to guarantee their T-shirt size and a $50 entry
fee. The entry fee increases to $60 after Oct. 28. Reg
istering for an additional event costs $15. Registration
closes on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7 p.m.
Women's and men's singles begin at 3 p.m. on Nov.
11, while women's and men's doubles begin at 9 a.m. on
Nov. 12. Mixed doubles start at 9 a.m. on Nov. 13.

All proceeds benefit the Southeastern Brain Tumor
Foundation, which provides funding for research, ac
ademic scholarships, patient programs and support
groups for those impacted by a brain tumor.
The Southeastern Brain Tumor Foundation has also
hosted the Muddy Duck Dash — a 5k obstacle course
race (OCR) event held in the Gainesville area — for the
past 10 years.

Identity theft and fraud awareness
program offered by Braselton police
The Braselton Police Department will host a presentation on
identity theft and fraud awareness Nov. 9 at 6 p.m. at the Bra
selton Community Room at 5040 Hwy. 53.
The program will last approximately 45 minutes, followed by
15 minutes of questions and answers.
The following topics will be covered:
•defining the types of identity theft and fraud
•how law enforcement investigates identity theft and fraud
•howto identify a scam
•steps to avoid being a victim
•what to do if identify theft and fraud occurs
•howto recover credit
•how to contest items on credit reports
•general tips on avoiding financial crime
The instructor will have handouts from the Federal Trade
Commission as well as other documents used by the Braselton
Police Department.
Chateau Elen hosting 25th-annual
Vineyard Fest on Nov. 13
Chateau Elan Winery and Resort will host its 25th-annual
Vineyard Fest on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 1 -5 p.m.
A sell-out event since 1996, this year's festival will be its
largest to date in honor of the 25th anniversary, according to
organizers. The event will include an exclusive 25th anniversary
wine release, its first-ever restaurant week leading up to the
event, unlimited wine, beer and spirits tastings and food and
grape stomping.

Celebrate the Holidays in Braselton
set for Nov. 19
The Town of Braselton will host its annual Celebrate the Hol
idays in Braselton event on Nov. 19.
The celebration will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown.
Festivities are planned throughout the day and include a
parade through historic down
town and the annual lighting
of the Christmas tree.
Braselton's Cravin' Baron
Walk set for Dec. 1
The Town of Braselton's
third-annual Cravin' Bacon
Walk is set for Dec. 1 from
5-9 p.m. in downtown.
Two ticket options are
available: "squealer" tick
ets and VIP tickets.
Squealer tickets cost
$35 and include a map of
locations where bacon ap
petizers will be available.
Those purchasing squealer
tickets must be at least 16
years old.
VIP tickets holders will
receive special access to
bourbon tasting rooms
in addition to the ba
con-snack stations. The
cost is $65 and includes a
souvenir glass. VIP ticket
holders must be at least
21 years old and present a
valid ID at check-in.
All participants are eligi
ble to win a $100 Buy Local

Hoschton History Harvest
set for March 11
The City of Hoschton will
host a "history harvest" on
March 11 from 10 a.m. to
4 p.m. at the Hoschton Train
Depot to digitize any old photo
graphs, documents, letters, di
aries and videos that Hoschton
residents may have.
"Don't let our history fade
away," organizers said.
The event is being spon
sored by the Hoschton Down
town Development Authority.

Unemployment
down in region, state
All regional commissions recorded a drop in unemployment
rates in September.
“We continue to see a steady rise in job creation and demand
by employers to fill open positions,” Georgia Labor Commis
sioner Mark Butler said in a monthly update. ‘This strong growth
has led to Georgia having the fewest unemployed residents in
over 20 years.”
Highlights from the Northeast Region include:
•The September preliminary unemployment rate was down
five-tenths to 2.3% over-the-month. The rate was 2.9% one year
ago.
•The labor force was up 1.942 over-the-month and up 7,547
over-the-year, to 326,214.
•The number of employed was up 3,532 over-the-month and
up 9,057 over-the-year, to 318,578.
• Initial claims were down 53 (-5%) over-the-month and down
162 (-15%) over-the-year, to 947.
•Initial claims were down over-the-month in administrative

Braselton council to discuss
voting maps, residential
development code
The Braselton Town Council has called a work session for
Thursday (Nov. 3) at 5:30 p.m. to discuss a pair of topics.
The council will review new voting district maps as it soon
must decide which maps to present for a public hearing. New
maps must be approved by January.
It will also discuss Braselton's residential development code
changes proposed by a consultant. The council wants to review
those changes before they are sent to the town's planning com
mission.
