Obituaries
Mattie Jean Ayers
COMMERCE — Mattie Jean Ayers, 89, Commerce,
died Sunday, November 13,2022, at her residence.
Mrs. Ayers was born in Homer to the late Luther and
Lillie Belle White Jordan. She was a member of Betha
ny Christian Church. Mrs. Ayers was a homemaker, and
also worked for the Banks County School System and
Henderson Academy.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ayers was preceded in
death by her husband, J.D. Ayers; and daughters, Deb
bie Vaughn and Joan Maginnis.
Mrs. Ayers is survived by her sons, Steve Ayers (Car
ol), Dale Ayers (Debbie) and Marty Ayers (Kelly), all of
Homer; daughter, Jenny North (Roger). Watkinsville;
sister, Joanne Jordan, Jacksonville, Fla.; sons-in-law,
Ronnie Vaughn, Athens, and Steve Maginnis, Green
ville, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service: Tuesday, November 15, 2022, at
11 a.m. at Bethany Christian Church with Pastor Richie
Brown officiating. Interment to follow in the church
cemetery.
Family to receive friends: Tuesday, November 15,
2022, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.
The family has requested that flowers be omitted and
donations be made to Bethany Christian Church, 312
Historic Homer Hwy., Homer, Ga. 30547.

Jerry Donald Davis
STATHAM — Jerry Donald Davis, 86, Statham,
passed away Sunday, November 20, 2022.
Jerry was born in Sand
erson, Florida, to James
and Flossie Davis on Feb
ruary 17, 1936. He was
raised in the Atlanta area
and was a graduate of
Hoke Smith High School
in Atlanta. Upon grad
uation Jerry served his
country as a member of
the United States Marine
Coips.
In 1954, Jerry married
Faiiy Peterman whom he
loved and cherished for more than 58 years. He excelled
in business and in 1972, started Davis Electric Co. Inc.,
that still operates today under the guidance of his two
sons, Glen and Keith. Jerry was a dedicated member of
Bethany Primitive Baptist Church in Suwanee.
Jerry Davis was a strong and determined man and if
you knew him, you have some stories to tell. He always
modeled good communication and directions and if you
ever talked with him, you probably got a napkin with a
map written on it. He was wise and dependable — al
ways available to provide guidance and support. He was
generous and big-hearted. He loved his family, loved
his church, and above all, he loved his Lord and Savior,
Jesus Christ and strived to glorify him in all things.
Jerry Davis is preceded in death by his wife, Fairy
Davis; parents, James and Flossie Davis; brothers, Mar
vin Davis and James Davis; sister, Willie Bell Marnich;
daughter, Angie Davis; and grandson, Christopher Da
vis.
Jerry is survived by his children, Glen (Tammy) Davis,
Keith (Julie) Davis and Julie (David) Williams; grand
children, Matt Davis, Joshua Davis, Kyle Davis, Kelly
Davis Thomas and Harrison Gullickson; great-grand
children, Kaylee Davis, Bennett Davis, Josie Thomas,
Ellie Thomas and Oaklee Davis; and a host of nieces
and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be
made to Bethany Primitive Baptist Church, 5101 Old
Atlanta Road, Suwanee, Ga. 30024.

Patricia Ann Kennedy Gannon
JEFFERSON — Patricia Ann Kennedy Gannon, 74,
Jefferson, entered rest Saturday. November 26,2022.
Ms. Gannon was born
in Brooklyn, New York, a
daughter of the late Wil
liam and Claire Higgins
Kennedy. In addition to
her parents, Ms. Gannon
is preceded by a son, Wil
liam Foronjy. Ms. Gannon
was of the Catholic faith
and was retired from the
U.S. Postal Service.
Survivors include three
daughters, Colleen Man-
the (Wayne), Jefferson,
Jennifer Foronjy (MJ Spagone), Bridgewater, Massa
chusetts, and Patrice Foronjy, Calverton, New York; sis
ter, Rosemary Brown, Greenport, New York; and three
grandchildren, Gannon Manthe, Shea Manthe and Cas
sidy Travers also survive.
A Memorial Mass will be held on a later date in New
York.

David Harper Kellum
BOWMAN — David Harper Kellum, 68, King Hall
Mill Road, Bowman, husband of 12 years to Bonita Os-
ley, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at
his residence.
David was born in El
bert County on August 4,
1954, son of the late Solo-
man Kellum and Mauline
Kidd Kellum. He took
great pride in his life’s
work as a tile contractor.
David was a member of
Rehoboth Baptist Church.
An avid outdoorsman, he
enjoyed spending time on
the family farm and hunt
ing and fishing.
In addition to his par
ents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Freda Thrasher
Kellum.
Survivors, in addition to his wife Bonita, include his
siblings, Ponica Kellum, Buddy (Judy) Kellum, Scott
(Jeanine Christian) Kellum and Tim (Pat) Kellum, all of
Bowman; step-children. Dana (Skip) Guffee and Cristal
Burnette, both of Anderson, S.C.; step-grandchildren,
Cooper, Campbell and Cayson Guffee; one niece; nu
merous nephews; and numerous cousins.
A celebration of David’s life will be held in the spring
of 2023 on the family farm, and private burial will be in
the Rehoboth Baptist Church Cemetery at a later date.

2022, from 5-7 p.m. at Beriy Funeral Home.

C.D. Kidd III
C.D. Kidd III, 81, was bom on July 29,1941, the third
child, to the late C.D. Kidd Jr. and Eldora Studivant
Kidd. He passed away peacefully on Sunday, Novem
ber 20, 2022.
C.D. was predeceased
by his parents; brother,
Elbert Kidd; three sisters,
Annie Ruth Jones, Lois
Berry and Mattie Kidd.
C.D. grew up in Jeffer
son, and graduated from
Bryan Elementary and
High School where he was
an outstanding student
athlete. He played on the
basketball team and was
also a member of the year
book staff.
He accepted Christ at an early age and joined the St.
Paul First Baptist Church under the pastorship of the
late Rev. V.S. Hughey. He was ordained as a deacon at
an early age, served on the board of trustees, and served
as the church treasurer for approximately 52 year's. He
served faithfully at St. Paul until his passing.
C.D. was joined in holy matrimony to Sarah Lumpkin
in 1961. To this union, two children were bom: Ange
la Maria and Kenneth David. He began working at the
University of Georgia in September 1973 and retired,
after 30 year's, in December 2003.
Kidd always believed that if you want something in
life, that you must set a goal and make a choice to work
har'd to reach that goal. He always taught his children
to, “believe that you can do anything, even when people
tell you that you can’t.” To that end, C.D. made a choice
to run for the position of city councilman and was the
first African-American elected to the Jefferson City
Council in 1975 where he served for 36 year's. C.D.
loved his community and advocated for making the
community of Jefferson better in every way possible.
During his tenure, he saw the City of Jefferson expand
in great ways, including but not limited to the building
of new homes and businesses, changes in infrastructure,
and paving of roads and sidewalks.
Courageous, dedicated, knowledgeable, inspiring,
determined and dutiful are words that can be used to
describe Deacon C.D. Kidd III. He was well-known
and loved in the Jefferson community and surrounding
areas. He loved God, his church and his family. He was
an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. He loved the City of Jef
ferson and was a huge supporter of the Jefferson City
Schools, always following the sports teams, and all ex
tra-curricular activities that his children, grandchildren,
nieces and nephews were a part of.
He is survived by his loving and beautiful wife, Sar
ah; daughter, Dr. Angela Kidd Vinson; son, Rev. K. Da
vid Kidd; grandchildren, Brandon (Cheriita) Vinson,
Jeshua (Courtney) Kidd, and Courtney Keziah Kidd;
five great-grandchildren; one sister, Sarah Ann (Jeffrey)
Fleming, Chicago, Ill.; in-laws, Ola (Marvin) Simmons,
Dorothy Aycock, Clarence (Anna) Lumpkin and Gene
va Byrd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and
friends.
Funeral service: Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at
12 p.m. at St. Paul First Baptist Church, 573 Gordon
St., Jefferson, Ga. 30549. Interment will follow in the
church cemeteiy.
Public viewing: Monday, November 28, 2022, from
11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Jackson-McWhorter Funeral
Home, 1253 West Broad St., Athens, Ga.
Viewing and family visitation: Monday, November
28,2022, from 4-6 p.m. at St. Paul First Baptist Church,
573 Gordon St., Jefferson, Ga. 30549.

Timothy Allen Long
HOMER — Timothy Allen Long, 64, Homer, entered
rest Thursday, November 24, 2022.
Mr. Long was born in
Winder, a son of the late
Hill Allen Long and the
late Hazel Pittman Long
and was a diesel mechanic
with the Jackson County
Government.
In addition to his par
ents, Mr. Long is preceded
by brothers, Willie Long
and Robert Long; and a
sister, Mary Martin.
Survivors include his
wife, Elaine Alford Long,
Homer; daughter, Hannah Long, Homer; son, Josh
Long (Kelly), Hoschton; granddaughter, Hailey Long,
Hoschton; brothers, Michael Long (Angie), Anderson,
S.C., Pat Long (Diane), Commerce, and Rex Long
(Roxanne), Fontana, California; sisters, Sarah Hardy
(Roger), Jefferson, Hilda Hart (Larry), Commerce, and
Ann Morgan (Bill), Anderson, S.C.; and several nieces
and nephews also survive.
Family to receive friends: Saturday, November 26,
2022, from 1-3 p.m. at Evans Funeral Home.

mains will be cremated following the visitation.

Leslie Martin
JEFFERSON — Leslie Martin, 85, of Jefferson,
passed away November 27. A native of Ardmore, Tenn.,
she was the daughter of the late Haskell Ray and Josie
Clemmons Roberts. Martin was preceded by her son,
Roy Wayne Boldin, and five sisters and three brothers
of Alabama. She was of the Baptist Denomination and
was a homemaker.
Surviving are five sons,

Boldin, Jimmy Dean Bol
din and Jerry Antonio Bol
din, 15 grandchildren and
a number of great-grand
children.

William J. McCartt Jr.
WINDER — William J. McCartt Jr., 58, Winder,
passed away Thursday, November 24, 2022 at North
east Georgia Medical Center in Braselton.
Lieutenant Junior Mc
Cartt served the B arrow
County community by
working as a paramedic
and a firefighter for over
20 year's. Junior was an
outstanding paramedic
and devoted his service to
those who were sick and
injured.
When Junior was not at
work, he absolutely loved
going hunting on a cold
morning, fishing on the
lake and watching the Tennessee Volunteers play foot
ball on Saturdays.
He was a dedicated son, brother, father and grandfa
ther. Junior led his family by being a teacher, provider,
supporter and a best friend. He took on many responsi
bilities in life, but always was a hardworking and brave
man who never gave up. Junior not only impacted his
family and friends, whom he loved deeply, but also the
