The Braselton News Wednesday, December 7, 2022 Page 2A Community calendar Celebration Church to host live nativity on Dec. 10 Celebration Church will host a live nativity on Dec. 10 from 6-8 p.m. "0, Night Divine" will feature a live nativity cast, live animals, a children's Christmas chorus, snacks and more. A narrated story and music will round out the evening. This event is free, though there will be hot chocolate and Christ mas treats available for sale as part of a youth fundraiser. Cars can enter the parking lot through either entrance, but the middle of the parking lot will be closed off for the event. The side you enter on is the side you will exit on. After parking, exit your vehicle and join attendees for the 0, Night Divine live nativity experience. (The rain date for this event is Dec. 11.) For more information, contact office@celebrationfamily.com or visit celebrationfami ly.com/nativity 'Night Before Christmas' benefit concert ahead Dec 11 North Georgia Winds will host a Dec. 11 benefit concert from 3-4 p.m. at the Braselton Civic Center. The professional wind ensemble will perform a narrated musical rendition of "The Night Before Christmas" along with other holiday favorites. A dessert reception will follow. Tickets cost $20 with proceeds benefitting the Georgia Mountains Food Bank. Hoschton Jingle Mingle set for Dec. 17 The City of Hoschton's second-annual Jingle Mingle will feature a Santas workshop and horse-drawn carriage rides around down town to go with the slate of holiday activities introduced last year. This year's Jingle Mingle is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 17 (2-8 p.m.) The carriage rides will feature Clydesdales which will carry pas sengers around the city square block. More food and beverage kiosks are planned for this year's event. Organizers expect 15-20 stops on the Jingle Mingle walk. Santa Claus will be on hand his year, along with six to eight Disney charac ters. The event will include a tree lighting. Submitted photo HEADSTONES RETURNED Headstones from the 1890s graves of infants William and Russell Smith have been returned to their gravesites in the Hoschton cemetery after missing for approximately two decades. Lifelong Hoschton resident Shannon Sell spear headed the effort to relocate the headstones to the gravesites. Budget continued from 1A $7,175 million water and sewer budget, down 1.2 percent from 2022. The council will review the proposed budgets during a public hearing on Dec. 15 at 5:30 p.m. with a vote scheduled during its regular meeting on Dec. 19 (5:30 p.m.). News briefs BRASELTON Braselton Town Council to hold Dec. 8 public hearing on new voting district map The Braselton Town Council will take public comment on a proposed new voting district map at its Thursday, Dec. 8 (4 p.m.), work session. The meeting will be held at the Braselton Police and Mu nicipal Court Building at 5040 Hwy. 53 in Braselton. The proposed map is on file with the town clerk and can be viewed during normal business hours at town hall at 4982 Hwy. 53 and at the Clerk of Superior Court of Jack- son County. The document can also be downloaded at Bra- selton.net. An updated district map is required every 10 years. The council will look to finalize the new map at its Jan. 9 (7 p.m. ) regular council meeting. Library continued from 1A programming. A children's garden with a story time am phitheater and an environ mental educational pier are also planned. The construction project includes $1.73 million in state funds. Meanwhile, the project has netted about a dozen donors. Scott said last Thursday (Dec. 1) that she will continue tak ing donations for two more weeks. Related to the library proj ect, the Braselton Arts Council is working to place a sculpture at the location. A sculptor re cently met with the architect to locate a spot for the piece. The arts council must still vote on hiring the sculptor. Improvements to two roads adjacent to the library are also in the works as part of the li brary project. The town will widen Brassie Lane and install 90-degree parking, while also placing a landscaped median with street lighting down the leg of Davis St. west of Hwy. 53 running to Hwy. 124. The project will include planting street trees along the road up to Hwy. 124. Though construction has not yet started, both road proj ects are expected to be com plete in April and cost a total of $1.5 million, the majority of which will be covered by American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Scott said savings from the library ex pansion will also be applied to these projects.
