Wayman Charles Hollis
ATHENS — Wayman Charles Hollis, 76, Athens,
(South Jackson community) entered rest Friday, Decem
ber 16, 2022.
Mr. Hollis was bom in
Athens, the son of the late
Charles William and Fran
ces Venable Hollis. Mr.
Hollis was a member and
deacon of Brockton Road
Baptist Church, a member
of the Gideons and Mt.
Vernon Masonic Fodge
and was retired from Hall
Equipment Company.
Wayman was the loving
husband of Diane Shep
herd Hollis for 54 years,
and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Survivors in addition to his wife are a son, Christo
pher Hollis (Morgan), Elbeiton; daughter, Erica Smith
(Jay), Athens; seven grandchildren, Brieanna Williams
(Andy), Rayna Bowles, Faith Hollis, Cole Mercardante,
Jade Mercardante, Blake Smith and Matthew Mercar
dante; and two great-grandchildren, Hazel Williams and
Kayson Hollis.
Funeral service with Masonic Rites: Monday, Decem
ber 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. from the Brockton Road Baptist
Church with the Reverends Jesse Mealor and Card Meal-
or officiating with burial to follow in Evergreen Memo
rial Park, Athens. Gentlemen honored as pallbearers are
Cole Mercardante, Steve Ray, Andrew Ray, Jonathan
Ray, Robert Childs and Ryan Fulcher.

Janice Diane Jennings
NICHOFSON — Janice Diane Jennings, 79, Nichol
son, formerly of Winder, passed away Tuesday, Decem
ber 6, 2022.
A native of Jacksonville,
Florida, she had resided
in Winder for the past 30
year's. Mrs. Jennings was
a member of Turning Point
Baptist Church and was a
member of the 1961 grad
uating class of Norcross
High School.
She was preceded in
death by her first husband,
Raymond Fee; second hus
band, Foyd S. Jennings
Sr.; parents, W. D. and Eva
Mae House Adams; sisters, Sheiyl Fedbetter and Kay
Canup; son-in-law, Farry Crowe; and daughter-in-law,
Deborah Jennings.
Surviving are children, Pam Crowe, Hoschton, Tina
(Mike) Fortner, Fawrenceville, Foyd S. Jennings Jr.,
Hoschton, and Sandy (Jason) Powell, Nicholson; 10
grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, David
Adams, Cornelia; and two sisters, Shelia Autry, Jeffer
son, and Becky Bonner, Bethlehem.
Funeral service: Saturday, December 10, 2022, at
1 p.m. at Turning Point Baptist Church, 461 Rockwell
Church Road N W, Winder, Georgia 30680 with the Revs.
Benji Boone, Mike Fortner and Kenneth Fee officiating.
Interment will follow in Barrow Memorial Gardens. The
following gentlemen are honored to serve as pallbearers,
Wayne Canup, Darrell Fedbetter, Ricky Haney, Danin
Childers, Brian Johnson and Thomas Powell, and are
asked to assemble at the church.

Jackson McCreery
EVANSVIFFE, INDIANA — Jackson McCreery,
26, Evansville Indiana, passed away Monday, Novem
ber 21, 2022, after a long battle with cancer.
Jackson was born December 1, 1995, the son of
James (Joe) McCreery and the late Felice Armstrong
McCreery, and grandson of the late Robert and Isabel
McCreery of Jefferson.
Jackson is also survived by his uncles, Roger Arm
strong (Nancy), New York, and Bill McCreery; aunts,
Betty Turner, Eleanor Brannen (Clyde), all of Jeffer
son, and Susan FaCount (Charles), Watkinsville; as
well as many cousins and friends.
Jackson was a generous and caring young man, as
shown by him just the week before his passing when
he challenged his online friends and helped to raise
over $45,000 via ‘Desert Bus For Hope’ for ‘Child’s
Play’, a charity that provides games and toys for chil
dren in long-term hospital stays.
A memorial will be held at a later date.

BOWMAN — Faura Barbara “Bobbie” Lester Smith
Rice, 86, East Railroad Street. Bowman, entered into
rest on Saturday, December 17,2022, at her residence.
Mrs. Rice was born in
the Nickville communi
ty of Elbert County on
November 19, 1936, the
third of six children of the
late Henry Lee Lester and
Mamie Lou Seymour Les
ter. She was a graduate of
Bowman High School and
furthered her education at
Abraham Baldwin Agri
cultural College. Bobbie
was of the Baptist faith
and a former member of
the Elbert Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Pink Ladies.
She was an avid traveler and was passionate about
working in her vegetable and flower gardens.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death
by her daughter, Amanda Rose Smith Todd; husbands,
Hugh Alexander Smith Sr. and Ralph Carlis Rice Jr.;
and siblings, Bill and Betty Lester, Betty and Hoyt Car
ey and Larry Lester.
Survivors include her son, Hugh A. Smith Jr., Bow
man; son-in-law, Ricky Todd, Elberton; sons, Randy
and Carol Rice, Elberton, and Brannon and Kelli Rice,
Spartanburg, S.C.; daughter, Cindy and Terry Pless, El
berton; siblings, Nanci and Buddy Ruff and Morris and
Linda Lester, all of Dewy Rose; grandchildren, Jandi
Todd and Roy Herbert, Cody Pless, Carley and Reid
Holland, Trevan Rice, McKae Rice, Brady Rice and
LaCree Rice; and numerous nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
Funeral service: Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at
2 p.m. in the memorial chapel of Berry Funeral Home
with the Rev. Gary Purvis officiating. Interment will
follow in Forest Hills Memorial Park with Greg Ruff,
Brad Ruff, Bentley Ruff, Kyle Ruff, Stuart Lester and
Paul Lester honored as pallbearers.

COMER — Helen Robena Simmons, 94, Comer,
passed away on Thursday. December 15, 2022.
A lifelong resident of
Madison County, she
was a daughter of the late
James Murray and Clara
Smith Murray. Mrs. Sim
mons was a longtime
member of Moon’s Grove
Baptist Church where she
was active with the En-
couragers Sunday School
Class.
In addition to her par
ents, she was preceded in
death by her husband of
65 years, Elmer “EO” Simmons; and three siblings,
Lottie Cole, Sarah Turner and Kenneth Murray.
Survivors include five children, Janice Burke (Jeff),
Jerry Simmons (Carol), Mick Simmons (Cathy), Don
Simmons and David Simmons (Jill); one sister, Marga
ret Shelton; four grandchildren; and seven great-grand
children.

Herbert Lee Strickland
DANIELSVILLE — Herbert Lee Strickland, 89, of
Danielsville, passed away on Sunday, December 18,
2022, at his home.
Mr. Strickland was born in Danielsville on September
8, 1933, son of the late James Richard Strickland and
the late Emma Dell Strickland. He was a general laborer
having worked for Madison County Road Department
and was a United States Army veteran having served
during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Strickland was also a
member of Providence Baptist Church in Danielsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death
by his wife, Lettie Mae Jones Strickland; son, James
Harrison Strickland; brother, J. W. Strickland; and sis
ter, Gennie Bell Helms.
Survivors include his sons, Roy Lee Strickland of
Commerce, Ray Thomas Strickland of Comer, and
Charles Donald Strickland of Commerce; daughters,
Janie Elizabeth Hicks of Danielsville, and Vickie Boothe
of Danielsville; brother, George Richard Strickland of
Danielsville; sisters, Ada-Dell Clarke of Commerce,
Lucy Bell Seagraves of Danielsville, Ruby Jean Cox of
Hull, and Linda Witcher of Colbert; 11 grandchildren,
24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchil
dren.
Funeral services for Mr. Strickland: Wednesday, Dec.
21, at 11 a.m. in the Pruitt Funeral Home Chapel. In
terment will follow in the Providence Baptist Church
Cemetery.
