Next 'BraseltonTech' workshop ahead Feb. 9 BraseltonTech — a private-public initiative between the Town of Braselton and the Advanced Technology Develop ment Center (ATDC) at Georgia Tech — has launched its "spark sessions" at the Braselton Civic Center. The next ses sion is Feb. 9 at 6 p.m. and will discuss pitching to investors. "There's a huge difference between selling your product to a customer and pitching investors," BraseltonTec organiz ers said. "Well get you ready to tell your story." With ATDC, BrasItonTech has partnered with a Georgia economic development organization funded by the state legislature and managed under the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute. ATDC is the oldest technology business accelerator in the U.S. and its graduating companies have raised over $3 billion in venture capital. "ATDC's mission is to develop a technology ecosystem that attracts technology companies, investors and the talent required to scale," according to a press release from the town. Ninth-annual Braselton Chocolate Walk set (or Feb. 4 The ninth-annual Braselton Chocolate Walk will be held in downtown Braselton Feb. 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. At each stop, walkers collect a chocolate snack from participating businesses. "Chocolate will come in many forms so grab a group of friends or plan a date with your sweetheart and enjoy some sweet treats while you shop," organizers said. Shops will be stamping each walker's map. Those with completed stamped maps will be eligible for a $100 Buy Local Braselton E-Gift Card drawing on Tuesday, Feb. 7. The E-gift card can be redeemed at 23 participating businesses in Braselton. Tickets are $15 each and are limited. Ticket holders must be 16 years or older. Hoschton History Harvest set for March 11 The City of Hoschton will host a "history harvest" on March 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Hoschton Train Depot to digitize any old photographs, documents, letters, diaries and videos that Hoschton residents may have. "Don't let our history fade away," organizers said. The event is being sponsored by the Hoschton Downtown Development Authority. For more information, call 706-654-3034. Braselton Paddy's Day PathFest set for March 11 Braselton's seventh-annual Paddy's Day PathFest is sched uled for March 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Braselton LifePath. Festivities start with a golf cart PathParade followed by a Quest challenge. The parade will feature decorated golf carts, bicycles, scooters, skateboards, wagons and walking groups along the LifePath (sidewalk along Hwy. 211). It begins at Ace Hard ware toward Monterrey Mexican Grill and ends at Primrose School. Judges will award the top best-decorated entries with prizes. The Paddy's Day PathQuest is a race involving several busi nesses along the LifePath searching for clues to complete a quest challenge. Jan. 17 in connection to the mur der of his wife at their home in the 300 block of Crescent Drive in Gaines ville, according to a press release from the Hall County Sheriff's Office (HCSO). Investigators responded to a 911 call at the resi dence around 6 p.m. Tues day and found the body of Ana Sofia Martinez Cam pos. 33. Evidence at the scene indicated she died of blunt force trauma. A law-enforcement BOLO was issued for the suspect Ivan Reyes- Jimenez. 50. and his vehi cle, a black passenger car with markings for a local taxi cab company. A Hall County Sheriff’s Office deputy and a Gainesville Police Department Officer conducted a felony stop on the suspect vehicle at a convenience store on E.E. Butler Parkway around 8 p.m. Reyes-Jimenez was arrested there without inci dent. Reyes-Jimenez has been charged with felony mur der. felony malice mur der and felony aggravated assault under the Family Violence Act (FVA). He remains in the Hall County Jail with no bond. The victim's body has been sent to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy. At this time, there is no known motive for the murder. Body found along roadside in Jefferson Friday night The Georgia Bureau of Investigation were called to a scene in Jefferson on Friday night where a body has been found. The body found on Holder Siding Rd. Friday night has been identified as Joshua Wick. 19, of Hall County. The Jefferson Police Department responded to a call on Hold ers Siding Rd. between Benton Rd. and Long Farm Rd. around 6 p.m. Friday night. Officials said they don’t believe he was killed at the scene. The JPD also said there was no danger to the general public related to the incident. HALL CO. Hall County leaders seek community input for comprehensive plan Hall County is in Phase 2 of a two-phase process to update its comprehensive plan, the document that serves as a road map for growth and development, and is seeking the public’s input as it moves forward. “The goal is for this long-term plan to be developed by and for the community, and we want to make sure every voice is heard throughout the process.” Randi Doveton, director of Hall County Planning and Development, said in a press release. The public engagement process for Phase 2 began with a vir tual kick-off meeting on Nov. 14 on Zoom. Hall County is in the process of collecting community input through online activities, including a mapping activity, commu nity forums and surveys that are open through Feb. 28. GWINNETT CO. Gwinnett County opens registration for community garden plots Gardeners of all skill levels are invited to apply for the 2023- 2024 growing year at Gwinnett’s 10 community gardens. The cost is $35 per year for a 4-foot by 8-foot raised platform garden plot. Once payment is received, plots are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. Gwinnett County provides water, tools, soil, mulch and edu cational resources at each site, while gardeners are responsible for maintaining and harvesting their plots. Gardeners must also participate in 12 hours of community service per year to main tain common areas. “Cultivating these sustainable gardens continues to yield fan tastic results,” said Brad Livesay, program coordinator for Live Healthy Gwinnett. “Not only do the gardens provide a hands- on opportunity for families to grow their own fresh produce, but with the shared rows, they’re also helping to close the meal gap for residents facing food insecurity.” Live Healthy Gwinnett offers an array of gardening programs for all ages and abilities, ranging from Gardening 101 to Pest Management through its Harvest Gwinnett initiative.
