Next 'BraseltonTech' workshop ahead March 9 BraseltonTech — a private-public initiative be tween the Town of Braselton and the Advanced Tech nology Development Center (ATDC) at Georgia Tech — has launched its "spark sessions" at the Braselton Civic Center. The next session is March 9 at 6 p.m. and will discuss fundraising mistakes. "Raising money can be overwhelming," Bra seltonTech organizers said. "Learn how to pitch to investors, the things not to do and how to prepare for success." With ATDC, BrasItonTech has partnered with a Georgia economic development organization funded by the state legislature and managed under the Georgia Tech Enterprise Innovation Institute. ATDC is the oldest technology business accelerator in the U.S. and its graduating companies have raised over $3 billion in venture capital. Braselton Woman's Club to meet March 1 The Braselton Woman's Club will meet on March 1 at noon in the community room below the Braselton Police Department at 5040 Hwy. 53. Sue McCleary, a "bee inspirationalist," will be the guest speaker. "Sue is educated, well trained and taught in the field of 'bee-coming' inspired and informed," organiz ers said. The club will hold a short business meeting after ward. Organizers ask attendees to bring a sack lunch and beverage. The meeting will include a devotional. Hoschton History Harvest set (or March 11 The City of Hoschton will host a "history harvest" on March 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at city hall to collect artifacts and digitize any old photographs, documents, letters, diaries and videos that Hoschton residents may have. "Don't let our history fade away," organizers said. The event is being held in cooperation with the Hoschton Downtown Development Authority and Hoschton Historic Preservation Committee. Those wishing to donate items are asked to call city hall at 706-654-3034 to schedule a 30-minute appointment for March 11. Braselton Paddy's Day PathFest set (or March 11 Braselton's seventh-an nual Paddy's Day PathFest is scheduled for March 11 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the Braselton LifePath. Festivities start with a golf cart PathParade fol lowed by a Quest chal lenge. The parade will fea ture decorated golf carts, bicycles, scooters, skate boards, wagons and walk ing groups along the Life- Path (sidewalk along Hwy. 211). It begins at Ace Hard ware toward Monterrey Mexican Grill and ends at Primrose School. Judges will award the top best-decorated entries with prizes. The Paddy's Day Path- Quest is a race involving several businesses along the LifePath searching for clues to complete a quest challenge. News briefs HOSCHTON Hoschton Police Department adds another officer Kesler is a former military, serving as a combat engineer in the United States Army. He grew up in Nicholson and has lived in the Jefferson area. Kesler has three sons. SOUTH HALL The Hoschton Police Department has hired a new offi cer, Evan Kesler, as the agency — reinstated by the city council in July 2021 — continues to expand. With the addition of Kesler. the Hoschton Police Depart ment has three full-time officers. Kesler has served in law enforcement for a decade, be ginning in 2013 when he worked in the Jackson County Jail. He graduated from the police academy in 2015 as an honor graduate and moved into the Jackson County Sher iff’s Office (JCSO) patrol division. In January 2017, the JCSO promoted Kesler to corporal, a rank he held until July 2022, when the agency promoted him to sergeant. Discussion of car condos, retail development tabled again A public hearing related to proposed car condos and retail on Winder Hwy. adjacent to Lanier Raceplex in South Hall has been tabled again by the Hall County Planning Commission at the re quest of the applicant. The Dell Group, LLC, seeks to amend the conditions of a planned commercial development on 21 acres at 5385 Winder Hwy. to allow for car condos, storage, commercial uses and retail. The item will be tabled until June. Braselton Pilot announces Braselton location upgrades as part nationwide remodeling effort The Pilot travel center in Braselton has a new look and amenities as part of an $1 billion initiative nationwide from the company to remodel its stores. Additionally. Pilot Company is donating $10,000 to Gwinnett County Public Schools for technology for its Title 1 Schools. As part of the store’s over haul, the Pilot travel center located at 5888 Hwy. 53 fea tures: •remodeled and expanded restrooms and showers •a new kitchen to serve food items •a new deli with grab-and- go items including made-in house pizza, homestyle meals, salads, sandwiches, soup, and hot and cold snacks. •Expanded beverage selec tion •four new self-checkouts •an improved public laun dry facility “We are excited to show case our newly updated trav el center with the Braselton community and the travelers we serve every day,’’ said Al lison Cornish, VP of Store Modernization at Pilot Com pany. “We continue to listen to our guest’s feedback and strive to make their travel ex periences easier and more en joyable.” The initiative is a three-year project to fully remodel more than 400 Pilot and Flying J travel centers.
