The art festival will feature juried fine art and fine craft artists showcasing their best works in various mediums. Jacob Braselton Chapter NSDAR holding Sept. 10 meeting The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution [DAR] invites the public to attend its Sept. 10,2 p.m. meeting in the community room located on the lower lever of the Braselton Police and Municipal Building at 4050 Hwy, 53, "We support historic preservation, education and patriotism," orga nizers said. Sept. 21 and Sept. 22 hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, while Sept. 23 hours run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pooches in the Park set for Sept. 23 in Braselton The seventh-annual Pooches in the Park is scheduled for Sept. 23, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Braselton Park on Harrison St. from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will include a marketplace, contests, a lure course, dog treats, a performance by Dixie Dock Dogs and an adoption center. Hoschton Fall Festival set for Oct. 6-8 Billed as the largest festival in Oackson County, the annual Hoschton Fall Festival is set for Oct. 6-8 in downtown Hoschton. This year's festival includes over 200 vendors, a kids’ zone, food trucks and live entertain ment, The festival parade is set for Oct. 7 at 10 a.m. Bands playing this year's event are Steelin' the Show [Friday, 6-8 p.m.], Few Miles South [Friday, 8-10 p.m.], Danny Dawson Band [Saturday, 6-8 p.m.] and Whis key Rose Band [Saturday, 8-10 p.m.]. Braselton hosting Oct. 7-8 Medieval Faire The Town of Braselton will host a two-day Medieval Faire on Oct. 7-8, featuring live history demonstrations, activities, vendors and food trucks. Petit Le Mans and Fox Factory 120 scheduled for Oct. 11-14 The annual Petit Le Mans and Fox Factor 120 will return to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta Oct. 11-14 near Braselton. The event will feature four days of on-track battles, culminating in the 10-hour IMSA WeatherTech Championship finale showdown on Oct. 14. Attractions include a kids' zone, vendors, food trucks, displays, car corrals, and camping. Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is located at 5300 Winder Hwy. ‘Celebrate the Holidays in Braselton’ set for Nov. 18 The annual Celebrate the Holidays Braselton event is set for Saturday, Nov. 18,10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Festivities are planned throughout the day and include the popular parade through historic downtown and the annual lighting of the tree. Hoschton Jingle Mingle planned for Dec. 8 The City of Hoschton's Tingle Mingle, coordinated by the Hoschton Downtown Development Authority, is scheduled for Dec. 8. The event includes a downtown business walk and a Christmas tree lighting. Hosptial Northeast Georgia medical center Braselton re-certified as stormready by the national weather service Northeast Georgia Medical Center (NGMC) in Braselton was recently recertified for its third time as StormReady by the National Weather Ser vice, meaning the hospital has a plan in place to handle all types of extreme weather. “We have a robust process to prepare, notify and respond to severe weather within our health system,” said Luke An derson, manager of emergen cy preparedness for North east Georgia Health System (NGHS). “The StormReady certification is further ev idence that we are always reviewing and refining that process in order to keep our patients and staff safe.” Since 2016, Juan Gar cia, security coordinator at NGMC Braselton, has been leading the charge to maintain StormReady certification for the hospital. This voluntary program encourages com munities, universities, health systems and counties to be prepared for severe weath er. Anderson. Garcia and the rest of the emergency man agement team have plans to expand this accreditation to the rest of NGMC’s hospital campuses. To qualify as part of the program, which spans the country, NGMC Braselton: • Established a 24-hour warning point and emergency operations center. • Has more than one way to receive severe weather warn ings and forecasts and to alert the public. • Created a system that monitors weather conditions locally. • Promoted the importance of public readiness through community seminars. • Developed a formal haz ardous weather plan, includ ing training severe weather spotters and holding emer gency exercises. “While it may not happen often, severe weather does af fect us here in Braselton,” said Anthony Williamson, pres ident of NGMC Braselton. “It’s comforting knowing we have everything in place to keep everyone safe in those situations. News briefs Braselton Braselton earns A+ bond debt rating Standard and Poor Global Ratings raised its underlying ratings from A to A+ on Braselton’s water and sewage outstanding revenue bonds, according to a press release from the town. “The upgrade reflects our view of the system’s im proving all-in debt service coverage, which we expect to stay consistent, increasing unrestricted cash reserves that will likely be sustained based on planned rate increases, and diverse customer base, with significant service area growth,” the S&P report states. “This is a fantastic rating,” said Town Manager Jennifer Scott, “and credit goes to a number of employees, system customers and our team’s long-range planning. We have a strong finance and operations team, and we have a loyal customer base who enjoy the benefits of our water/waste water systems.” The town is planning a wastewater treatment plant ex pansion and has renewed water purchase agreements to plan for the future. The water supply is expected to suffice for a decade. Hall Co. Hall County Animal Shelter hosting first-ever Furry Fall Festival Hall County Animal Shelter will host the first-annual Furry Fall Festival Saturday, Sept. 30 at Laurel Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. “We are excited to be able to host this fall event and ring in the season with our community pet owners and soon-to-be pet owners,” Hall County Animal Services Director Trey Garcia said. “The Animal Shelter continues to strive for ways in which we can successfully enhance our relationships with the public, while providing education and services tailored to our pets. The event will have a designated adoption area full of adopt- able dogs from the Hall County Animal Shelter, along with a free rabies vaccine clinic for guests to get their pets up-to-date on shots. The Furry Fall Festival will have food tracks, vendors and a pet costume contest with a prize for first place. Free vendor reser vations are still being accepted with a donation made to the Hall County Animal Shelter. Hoschton Development with over 700 residences, commercial space proposed in Hoschton The Hoschton City Council will consider a proposal for a mixed-use development of 712 resi dences and 63,000 square feet of commercial space on Hwy. 53 dining a Sept. 14 (6 p.m.) public hearing. The project is proposed for nearly 55 acres along Hwy. 53 on the east and west sides of Nancy In dustrial Dr. and the end of Amy Industrial Lane. The applicant, G.R’s Enterprises, Inc, seeks a rezoning from light indus trial (M-l) to a planned unit development (PUD) for the development. The residential portion of the plan calls for 360 apartments and 352 town- houses, while the non-res- idential component calls for retail, restaurant, of fice and civic space. CARWASH PROPOSED The city council will also hold a public hearing on Sept. 14 over a pro posed car wash for 1.38 acres for Hwy. 53 north of East Jefferson and West Jefferson streets. The project applicant is Stanton Porter. OTHER PUBLIC HEARINGS The Hoschton City Council will also hold Sept. 14 public hearings over: •a comprehensive plan resolution to adopt an offi cial corridor map designat ing land reserved for future transportation facilities, in cluding streets, highways, bikeways, sidewalks, and multi-use trails. •an ordinance amending the subdivision and land development ordinance to reference a new code sec tion and an official corridor map. It will also amend the development plans and permits section to add an official corridor map sec tion. •an ordinance amending the subdivision and land development ordinance related to residential and non-residential driveways to modify standards and specifications. •an ordinance amending a zoning ordinance to au thorize the replacement of a nonconforming manu factured home with a new manufactured home per amendment to the zoning procedures law. •an ordinance amending zoning ordinances to pro vide a new section for small wireless facilities and add definitions of terms related to small wireless facilities. The council will poten tially vote on these items at its Sept. 18 regular meet ing.
