Braselton Bid for traffic light at Jesse Cronic Rd. and Hwy. 124 approved By Ben Munro ben@mainstreetnews.com The Town of Braselton has approved a bid for a long-anticipated traffic sig nal at Hwy. 124 and Jesse Cronic Rd., and it’s under budget. The Braselton Town Council on Monday (June 9) OK’d a $728,176 low bid from Azimuth Contractors. Engineer estimates had been approximately $1 million. The state department of transportation will also sup ply some materials for the project. “Hopefully, we’ll have a traffic signal for the holi days,” Town Manager Jenni fer Scott said. The project will include adding a right-turn/through lane on Jesse Cronic Rd., adding a right-turn lane on Hwy. 124 to turn onto Laurel Park Ave., re-striping Hwy. 124 and adding a left turn lane to Laurel Park Ave. Area Weekend storms cause thousands of area power outages Powerful storms swept through Jackson EMC’s ser vice area on Saturday evening (June 7), producing strong winds and heavy rain that re sulted in widespread outages across Northeast Georgia. The storms initially caused 18,535 outages in Gwinnett County, 9,393 in Hall County, 6,003 in Jackson County and 2,973 in Barrow County. A few outages remained into Monday evening. As of 9:30 p.m., 14 customers in Jackson County, six in Hall County and one in Barrow County were still without power. Some outages were related to storms on Monday. Braselton Large-scale development plans coming before Braselton town leaders By Ben Munro ben@mainstreetnews.com Originally scheduled to go before the Braselton leaders in the spring of 2024, a massive project calling for over 300 residences, a hotel, restau rants and retail will be heard by both the town planning commission and town council in the coming weeks. The pro posed site (Gwinnett County Tax Parcel R3006A192) is a vacant 21-acre lot located at the corner of Thompson Mill Road and Highway. 211. The Braselton Planning Commission will hold its public hearing on June 23 at 6 p.m., followed by the Bra selton Town Council’s public hearing on July 10 at 4 p.m. The applicant, Parkway Professional, LLC, seeks to amend the Chateau Elan Planned Unit Development for a development of mixed- use office, retail, restaurant and residential condomini um buildings; hotel; park ing structures; multi-family buildings; open space; and other commercial uses. These plans call for 340 residential units and a five-story, 120- room anchor hotel. MAILING LABEL Braselton Developer plans to resubmit plans for 178-unit townhome proposal in Braselton By Ben Munro ben@mainstreetnews.com A townhome developer has received a deferment from the Braselton Town Council to allow time for improved architectural renderings and to present alternative architectur al restrictions for a pro posed 178-unit project on Friendship Rd. Brock Built Homes seeks to build the develop ment on 61 acres at 2846 Friendship Rd. and 3036 Friendship Rd. in Hall County. With the granted deferment, approved by the council on Monday (June 9), the updated pro posal will be presented to the council again in Sep tember. “We can do a re-submit tal of the product and truly show you what it’s going to look like,” Adam Brock of Brock Built Homes said on June 5 during a public hearing.
