Those interested are asked to provide their name and number of people attending by calling 706-654-4862. Tune 28 spaghetti dinner Center Pointe Church will also host a spaghetti dinner on June 28 from 1 to 5 p.m. with a choice of two pastas and sides. Eat-in or carry-out options are available. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children ages 5-14. Children 4 and under eat free. Tickets will be sold on Sundays at church, or call 706-654-4862 to reserve a ticket. Center Pointe Church is located at 7641 Jackson Trail Rd. near Hoschton. •BRASELTON TECH HOLDING AI TRAINING WORKSHOP JUNE 24 Braselton Tech will hold an Al training workshop on June 24 from 6-8 p.m. at the Braselton Civic Center. "Join us for a hands-on training event where BraseltonTech will teach you how to use and understand Al tools like ChatGPT and automation agents for phone, text and email" organizers said. 'The event will feature dynamic drag performances, community engagement and raffle giveaways-all to raise funds for the inaugural Equality Fest, happening this September in Gainesville," organizers said. "This Pride Month celebration is both a night of entertainment and a chance for the Braselton community to show their support for inclusivity and local grassroots efforts." Highlights include the community parade, concert on the town green, kid-friendly activities, food trucks and a fireworks show that begins at dark. The parade will start at Free Chapel Braselton at 6 p.m. and continue through downtown on Hwy. 53 and Harrison St. The event is free. Race packet pickup beings at 6:30 a.m. The Braselton Police Foundation raises funds to provide equipment and financial support to the Braselton Police Department and to officers in need. The Foundation is also working with BPD to expand their public safety initiatives. All movie events run from 7-10 p.m. 'The movie will start when it gets dark enough to see the screen," organizers said. "Bring your family, friends, pets, and lawn chairs, and make it a dinner and movie evening." •THREE-DAY KRAV MAGA WOMEN'S SELF-DEFENSE COURSE AHEAD JULY 25-27 AT CHATEAU ELAN Eric and Melissa Scoggins, who own ETS Wealth Management in Hoschton, are bringing a three-day CKM Krav Maga women's self-defense boot camp to Chateau Elan. The dates are July 25-27. 'We believe in this system so much, we're organizing the event at zero profit - it's all about community safety and awareness," Eric Scoggins said in an announcement for the event. CKM Krav Maga was founded by Moni Aizik, a former Israeli Defense Forces member with jiu-jitsu and judo expertise. All instructors are trained by him. The event is open to those ages 12-70. Men are welcome, too, "especially those passionate about teaching others how to stay safe," Scoggins said. Around town Weekly snapshots from around the Braselton-Hoschton community News briefs JACKSON COUNTY BOE votes to sell land to county The Jackson County Board of Education has officially voted to sell a 3-acre tract in Jefferson to Jackson County government. The property is on Panther Drive next to the district board office. It will be used for a new EMS station. The sale price was $97,600. JACKSON COUNTY Fairview Community Center gets rededicated on June 11 The Fairview Community Center was rededicated on June 11 in a special ribbon cutting and lunch celebra tion. Jackson County Board of Commissioners Chairman Marty Clark spoke during the ceremony. “Fairview Community Center has been a vital gather ing place for residents of all ages — a space for learn ing, connection and recreation,” he said. “I want to recognize the outstanding efforts of the Jackson County Rec department. Their vision for this project was focused on what mattered most — serv ing the people of this community. They made sure this facility would meet the needs of families, seniors and young people for years to come. I’m proud of what this renovation represents: a commitment to the quality of life for every corner of our county,” said Clark. While the renovated space has been opened since De cember, it has not been formally advertised as it await ed finishing touches. The walls are now adorned with memorabilia from some of the property’s history, a kitchen has been installed and floors and wall painting has all been completed. Included in the ceremony were accounts of several members of the community and their fond memories of the property throughout the years since their child hoods and to the present day.
