The council approved the budget unanimously Wednes day (June 18). Before the council passed the budget, Councilmember Richard Harper discussed amending the budget later to include potential pay increases for town employees in addition to the raises already built into the budget. See Budget, page 3A Jackson County Another battery plant in Jackson? Could another large EV bat tery plant be coming to Jack- son County? That possibility was put on the radar this week after Jack- son County Area Chamber of Commerce president Steve Wittry told the Jackson County Board of Commissioners that a battery firm was looking at the community. Highlights include the community parade, concert on the town green, kid-friend ly activities, food trucks and a fireworks show that begins at dark. The parade will start at Free Chapel Braselton at 6 p.m. and continue through downtown on Hwy. 53 and Harrison St. The event is free. Braselton Braselton planners pause on large hotel, residential, restaurant, retail project proposal By Ben Munro ben@mainstreetnews.com The Braselton Planning Com mission will take an extra month to ponder a large-scale liotel, residential, restaurant and retail project at the corner of Hwy. 211 and Thompson Mill Rd. before making its recommendation. Tire board voted unanimous ly Monday (June 23) to table its vote to late July. Plans submitted by tlie ap plicant, Parkway Professional, LLC, propose over 300 residen tial units for tlie site (Gwinnett County Tax Parcel R3006A192), currently a vacant 21-acre lot lo cated at tlie intersection. Originally sclieduled to go before the Braselton leaders in tlie spring of 2024, tlie long-pro posed project specifically calls for 340 residences and a five-sto ry, 120-room anclior liotel. Ac cording to plans, 300 residences would be multi-family units and 40 would be condominiunis. Plans also call for 26,000 square feet of loft office space and 58,500 square feet of retail space. MAILING LABEL Hoschton Hoschton mayor and council to consider increasing their monthly pay By Ben Munro ben@mainstreetnews.com The Hoschton City Coun cil is proposing a pay increase and will discuss the matter at its July 17 (6 p.m.) meeting. According to a public no tice from the city, the mayor would receive $1,500 month ly, while council members would receive $1,000 if the increases are approved. The increases would go into effect Feb. 1. The mayor’s salary is currently $1,000 per month, and council members receive $500 per month.
