Julia Davis, board member and chairperson of the
Women’s AIDS Task Force, leads a panel discussion
featuring members of the Task Force s special
subcommittees.
Since its formation in late 1985, the Women’s AIDS Task
Force has produced a brochure on women at risk for AIDS
and organized subcommittees on IV drug users, minorities,
and children.
Members are organizing an area-wide blood drive
campaign during the week of June 27 (Gay Pride Week) in
cooperation with the American Red Cross, Atlanta Lesbian
Feminist Alliance, and YWCA.

HTLV-III infection and its symptoms. Today's
panel includes a person with antibodies to
the virus but without symptoms, a person
with swollen lymph nodes (Lymphadenopathy),
a person with AIDS—Related Complex (ARC),
and a person with AIDS.

SUPPORT GROUPS FOR PEOPLE
AFFECTED BY HTLV-III/LAV
AID Atlanta’s Case Manager, Sarah Holmes, M.A., a
doctoral candidate in psychology at Georgia State
University, will chair a program featuring therapists and
facilitators who lead support groups for people affected by
AIDS, ARC and Lymphadenopathy.
. Weekly support groups are offerd under the auspices of
AID Atlanta for people whose lives are touched by the AIDS
epidemic. Among the support groups available are
bereavement, holistic approaches to AIDS, groups for lovers,
friends and members ef families of People with AIDS
£ (pwA’s). For people already infected with HTLV-III/LAV,
i groups are available for PWA’s and people with ARC and
U Lymphadenopathy. A groups for the worried well, such as
. (those who have been infected with the virus but show no
symptoms, will be offered in the near future.

1 RED CROSS HOME NURSING COURSE

Sheppard Spinal Clinic
Maria Hansen, MPH, an AID Atlanta volunteer trained as a
Home Nursing instructor by American Red Cross, will teach
the first session of an 18-hour certified nursing course.
Anyone interested in working as volunteer in AID Atlanta's
new Practical Support program is encouraged to enroll in
this special course which has been adapted to meet the
needs of peolewho provide care to PWAs. No previous health
care expferience is required.
A $15.00 fee is required to cover costs of materials,
certification, and classroom space. Subsequent clases in the
series will be held on five Tuesday and Thursday evenings
from 6:30 until 9:30 p.m.
CASE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP FOR
CURRENTLY ACTIVE AND NEW BUDDIES
2:00-5:00 p.m.
Old Rich Auditorium
Paul Plate, M.Ed., will conduct a three-hour workshop dn
case management, intended for potential Buddies as well as
for currently active Buddies, this session will acquaint
volunteers with the new Patient Services manual.
In addition to the Buddy's role as a friend to a PWA, each
Buddy is expected to serve as a "mini case manager,"
coordinating AID Atlanta’s sen/ices tc the PWA and
identifying new resources for meeting the client’s special
needs. This afternoon’s workshop will offer specific
suggestions for fulfilling the case manager role. r
A $5.00 fee is requested to cover the cost of the Patient
Services manual.
This job fair is your opportunity to learn more about your
future role as a volunteer with AID Atlanta.
Volunteers from each of the agency’s active programs will
be on hand to talk with you one-to-one about their
involvement with specific programs. Learn from their
experiences, ask for their suggestions, offer your assistance
to the programs that interest you.
