Perry hospital has new CT scanner
By RAYLIGHTNER
Journal Staff Writer
Perry Hospital has the newest, state
of the art diagnostic tool - a 16-slice CT
scanner.
The $600,000 machine, replaces the
two-slice scanner the hospital had. It
went on line Aug. 22.
Dr. Chuachiaco Lewin - “Dr. Lew” as
he’s called at the hospital - said the new
CT scanner definitely helps with diagno
sis. The internist said the new scanner
provides better definition and is much
faster. “It provides better images,” she
said. The scanner is used to diagnose
strokes, lung problems, aneurisms. “It
has hundreds of different uses,” Lewin
said.

Houston Healthcare) give their time and
expertise to help identify what equip

of the patients. We are encouraged to

Lewin said he had hoped for an eight
slice scanner, but then got the 16. “We
got as good as you can have,” Lewin
said. Houston Medical Center in Warner
Robins has a 64-slice CT scanner, which
Lewin said, “is only more useful for
corneal arteries, something we don’t do
here.”
Tim Sisco, radiology director, said,
“the CT is one we use more than any
other for acute diagnosis.”

Man dies in car crash
Second driver charged with homicide
Special to the Journal
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office, according to
a release, responded to a car crash on Ga 247 Spur at
the Cook House entrance to Perdue Farms Wednesday
morning.
The incident, according to the release, involved a 2004
Honda VTX 1300ec motorcycle that was being driven
North-Bound on Ga 247 Spur by James Eugene Hall
from Houston County and a 2001 Kia Sportage that was
being driven south bound by Aquilino Leonel Lopez-
Gomez of a Warner Robins address.
Lopez-Gomez, according to the Sheriffs Office,
attempted to turn into the Perdue Farms entrance
and failed to yield the right of way to Hall. Hall was
not able to avoid the collision and struck the front of
the Kia with his motorcycle. He was thrown from the
motorcycle and was pronounced deceased at the scene
by medical personnel.
Upon impact, both vehicles burst into flames and were
totally destroyed by the fire, the Sheriff’s Office said. Lo
pez-Gomez was transported to the Perry Hospital for
minor injuries and has since been released.
But, the Sheriffs Office added, he was -then
