Cub Scouts - not a
‘babysitter program’
By CHARLOTTE
PERKINS
Journal Staff Writer
Dozens of young
boys showed up
last Saturday
at Crossroads United
Methodist Church for snow
cones, outdoor games and
one of the great American
rites of passage. They were
there to sign up for the Cub
Scout program.
While den mothers Beth
Jones and Tina DeSilva
kept the rambunctious kids
busy outside with a game
of “Steal the Bacon,” the
parents learned about the
program from Cub Masters
Kevin Hall and Will
Steinbaugh.
Part of that orientation
was a reality check.
“This is not a babysitter
program,” Hall said. “The
more involved the parents

“Both men were found uncon

boom lift by their safety harnesses,”
Edwards said.

Houston Medical Center
will offer free valet parking
beginning Sept. 17.
“They will also assist
patients with getting in
and out of their vehicles,”
said Skip Philips, Houston
Healthcare’s chief operating
officer.
Philips said the valet ser
vice is for patients and visi
tors, but not for doctors and
staff as they have their own
new parking lot in the back.
Authority member Trudy
Warren questioned offering
the service for free, since
other hospitals charge for
the service.
Houston Healthcare CEO
Dr. Tony Alford said he
approved the free service
“because of so much disrup
