Safe Kids offers tips for you, yours

September is Baby Safety
Month and Safe Kids of
Houston County reminds
parents and caregivers to
plan ahead to make safe
spaces for babies at home, at
play and on the road.
To that end, Safe Kids of
Houston County has the fol
lowing safety tips for new
borns up to age 3:

Remove pillows, soft bed
ding and toys from crib; put
baby “back to sleep” or face
up on a firm mattress. Keep
cribs away from windows and
furniture. Install guards on
windows that can be opened,
and tie up cords on curtains
and blinds. Install smoke
alarms on every floor and

unattended. Keep hot liq
uids, poisons and electrical
cords out of reach, and keep
cleaning products and other
poisons locked out of reach.
Do not let children under
age three eat small, round or
hard foods such as hot dogs,
grapes, hard candy, nuts or
popcorn.
Mix hot and cold water
together, and test the tem
perature before putting the
baby in the water. Set the hot
water heater to 120 degrees
to help prevent scalding.

Testimony begins in the Dr. Vincent Mallory trial. Also, with
just 64 spectator passes being issued, it’s reported people
are lining up in the early morning hours for a chance to ge in.
In other news, the acting director of the Middle Georgia
Health District tells the Houston County Board of Health -
during a meeting - AIDS is a lot more widespread than once
thought (oh yes).
10 years ago:
The City of Perry offers installation of a second water meter
to read yard usage. The offer stems from residents com
plaining their water bills were unusually high following a rate
increase.

longtime employees

County Board of Education
personally shook hands
with 25 employees on
Tuesday, thanking them
for their loyal service. The
employees, including main
tenance and school lunch
employees as well as teach
ers, principals and adminis
trators, had worked for the
system for 25 to 40 years.
They were guests of honor
at a reception prior to the
regular board meeting.

founded Friends of Perry
Animal Shelter as a 501(c)3
non-profit charity.
This charity is the prima
ry vehicle to raise money for
the shelter. Cosey, accord
ing to the release, donates
“countless hours of his
time and who-knows-how
much of his own money in
support of FOPAS.”
