Howard to Saloonkeepers.
(Extracts from the speech of Clinton N. Howard, at the great Rochester
mass meeting 1 , attended by a committee from the local Liquor Dealers’ Asso
ciation, by appointment of their craftsmen, to report the character of the
meeting and the men attending or contributing, intending to organize a boy
cott. Howard took the committee for his text, 2,000 people applauding his
indictment).
Men in the liquor business, do you wonder that we men who are trying
to serve God in the highest sense by serving Humanity, do you wonder that
at a great cost in time and money, without gain to ourselves or hope of reward,
we fight it?
Do you wonder that for your own sake, the people’s sake, the boys’
sake, the mothers’ sake, lhe city’s sake, we ask you to stop it?
On May Ist your liquor tax expires. We ask you in the name of your
own manhood, and for the sake of everything good and pure on earth, don’t
renew it.
We want you to understand us. We are not fighting individuals. We have
no issue with you as men. But we are the enemies of your business. We
hate it.
We are not alone in this.
You hate it.
Ask yourselves the question.
It is a bad business.
You know that better than we do.
Any service that we can do you as brother men we would most gladly
do.
Anything that we can do to destroy your business, as the worst enemy
of man, we will do—cost what it may. We will leave nothing undone. We
hate it.

A combination containing a freely
absorbed Salicylate, eliminating the
objections of the internal Salicylic
I real ment.
Its therapy in RHEUMATISM.
NEURALGIA, MYALGIA, SCIAT
ICA, and all foims of pain, it has
proved most potential in the treat
ment of Rheumatism, both acute and
chronic, and in cases of Neuralgia,
Sciatica. Tabes ami Arthritic Hout.
It has been used with marked advan
tage in relieving headache and tooth
ache, ami also for bronchitis and af
fections of the throat. It has been
used with success in treating pleuret
ic and peritoneal pains, and in severe
cases of phlebitis.
Rheumaticine Balm is used Exter
nally. Applied externally, its action
is quite comparable to that produced
by the internal employment of Sali
cylate of Soda, which it advanta
geously replaces, especially as it
spares the stomach and nervous sys
tem ; one avoids also the cutaneous
manifestations going from simple
erythema to chronic, pimply eczema,
that the Salicylate of Soda produces
with a great number of invalids. The
use of Rheumaticine on the skin does
not change in any way the aspect of
the epidermis, even after repeated ap
plications.
