Among the Workers.
The Macon Methodists are arranging for a great
meeting of the Epworth Leagues on June 13th next.
Dr. H. A. Jones, one of the leading ministers in
the Presbyterian Church of the South, who is at
present synodical evangelist for Mississippi, has iust
closed a most successful revival at Starkville.
Chief Henry Jennings says that Atlanta should
have a hospital equipped for prompt service at
the police station. This suggestion is another in
the line of work projected by awakened Christian
consciences.
Jackson county, Mississippi, by a close margin of
about 160. has just gone for prohibition. This
county, of which Canton is the county site, has long
been an eyesore to the prohibitionists of Mississip
pi; but now they are praising God for victory, and
are marching into other camps of the enemy.
A church in Louisiana is pushing a laudable pur
pose to raise this year for missions, $2 per member.
Suppose all churches did that? For instance, sup
pose 220,000 white Baptists in Georgia raised
money in that proportion! $440,000 in one year
would be a power in the work. Why not have it?
Starkville, Miss., enjoys the rare distinction of
having never had a licensed saloon. Some years
ago a man opened a saloon without a license, but
some of the citizens purchased his stock and
emptied it on the ground. They then told him that
they would be glad to have him as a citizen if he
would engage in a reputable business, but he moved
to a more congenial clime. There are no “blind
tigers," the people of Starkville are not poor, nor
is the town dead, bat to the contrary, is one of the
most progressive towns in Mississippi, all of which
goes to prove that a town may live and prosper
without the licensed saloon.

An article in The Sunday School Times says:
Ihe S. nday school is not the church of to
morrow, nor a branch of the church of today; it
is the church engaged in the most important work
(hat God commits to men. As the Church teach
ing the Sunday school is the church at work in car
rying out the Great Commission: making disciples,
or learners, of all men.”
This, of course, includes Bible Study, soul-win
ning and especially training the minds and hearts
to recognize the obligation we owe to the lost.
And that includes the heathen, of course.
In a recent debate in the British house of Com
mons, Mr. Balfour compared the prime minister
to “Aaron between his two supporters.” The
premier interrupted and asked if it were not Solo
mon instead of Aaron. Mr. Balfour retorted:
“Solomon had to decide, not between two support
ers, but between two babies.” The ridiculous
blunder was exposed and laughed at, and Mr. Bal
four covered his mortification by an apology and
an admission of the importance of some simple
Bible teachings.
The coming of Rev. C. F. Aked to the pastorate
of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church of New York,
is a promising incident. The notices and sketches
of Mr. Aked that have reached us indicate that he
is a. well-balanced, sound and steady believer in the
doctrines of evangelical Christianity, and is a firm
and consistent believer in the creed of his own
church: that he is utterly fearless, and, like
Broughton, he believes that the churches should
courageously, wisely ami constantly insist on up
rightness and (-leanness in every rank of social lite,
public, private am! official. The iind-erstamling is
that Rockefeller understood all this, ami emploved
Mr. Aked with his eyes open. Mr. Rockefeller

It is said that Dr. Joseph Barker on one occa
sion uttered from his pulpit, the “City Temple,”
in London, the following remarkable words:
“Should it ever come to pass that the great truths
of Christ’s death ami resurrection be denied by
any future occupier of this pulpit, or should the fact
of His gri icious godhead and divinity be questioned,*
may the word ‘lchabod' be written over the doors
of the City Temple.” Pursuant thereto, the other
day somebody employed an expert sign writer, and
he climbed up and wrote “Ichabod” over the
door of the Temple, because the defection of R.
J. Campbell is a distinct realization of the terms
of Dr. Parker's malediction.
