Large Audience Witnesses Remarkable
Shorthand Demonstration at Bag
well’s Business College
Miss Mary Spears, a three months’ pupil of the
Chartier System, astonishes the audience by the
speed with which she wrote the most difficult
matter.
Forty students enroll in one week for regular
course at Bagwell Business College.
Something of a sensation in shorthand circles
has been created by the free demonstration course
in Chartier Shorthand given at Bagwell Business
College during the past week. The purpose of this
course was to demonstrate the wonderful simplic
ity, brevity and legibility of the new Chartier sys
tem of shorthand, and its superiority for all prac
tical purposes over the old systems.
About one hundred students enrolled for the
free course and of this number about 40 have al
ready enrolled for the regular course and nearly
all have expressed their intention of taking the
course as soon as possible.
Several hundred people were present at the col
lege on Friday evening, June 21, at the close of the
free week’s course and were surprised and delight
ed to see students who had been studying only five
days write on the blackboard from dictation busi
ness letters which they had never seen before.

Other Schools Challenged to Contest, But failed to
Respond.
Frol. Bagwell had issued a challenge to any of
the colleges teaching the old systems of shorthand
offering to contest a three months’ pupil with any
six months’ pupil. It was hoped and expected that
they would accept, but they failed to respond.
A representative of the old Graham system was
present and asked permission to pick a pupil at
random from one of the classes. He was allowed
to do so and after dictating quite a lot of diffi
cult matter from a newspaper and having read
back to him almost without an error, he confessed
his amazement and offered no further criticism.
Writers of Old Systems Convinced.
A number of students and writers of the old
systems are in attendance and they are unanimous
in pronouncing the Chartier System a wonderful'
improvement over the old line systems.
Those who have become discouraged in their
efforts to learn the old, difficult systems should
take advantage of this opportunity.
