Bagwell Business College Employs Instructor of
the Famous Eastman School, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.
Large Enrollment Demands More Teachers
Bagwell Business College has secured the services
of Professor Harry W. Leyenberger, who for the
past two years has been principal teacher of the
Shorthand Department of the famous Eastman Col
lege, Poughkeepsie, N. Y., the oldest and best
known commercial school in the United States.
The bringing of Professor Leyenberger to At
lanta as instructor in Bagwell Business College is
in keeping with the policy of this institution to
place at the service of its patrons the best teach
ing talent that can be secured, regardless of cost.
Mr. Leyenberger is a native of lowa, a graduate
of lowa College with the degree of Ph.B., and has
had several years’ experience as a literary and
commercial teacher. He received a thorough com
mercial training at Eastman College, and as an in
structor in that institution has probably taught
Chartier Shorthand to more students than has any
one else except the author himself. He received a
flattering offer to remain at Eastman College.

duced. At the present time fully 65 per cent of
shorthand students at Eastman College are in the
Chartier department, although the school has con
tinued to teach Pitman and Graham shorthand.
This is really a high tribute to the merits of the
system. The explanation of this lies, of course, in
the fact that the same results have been secured
with Chartier Shorthand in about one-half the
time. A saving of time means a saving of money.
Chartier Shorthand For Court Reporting.
“It has also been fully demonstrated at the East
man College that students of the Chartier system
make equally as efficient stenographers as those
of any other system and are capable of holding the
best positions. Many have been able to do heavy
court reporting work after only a few months’
study. The official court reporter of Judge Brand’s
district of the western circuit of Georgia, is a
Chartier writer and a former student of mine, who
went directly from school into the court room. It
is a matter of record that he is a court reporter of
unusual ability. I could mention many others.
On account of the great simplicity and brevity of
the system, a larger per cent of those who take
up the study of Chartier Shorthand, complete their
courses than of those who study the old systems.
