OPERATION PREVENTED
e
The True Story of a Lady Whose
Doctor Counseled an Opera
tion, But Who Cured Her
•clf at Home, After all
Other Treatments
Had Failed.
Only * weftk woman who has actually
experienced it, can realize the shock that
comes with the doctor’s words: “You
must have an operation.”
Frequently the doctor is right, but
sometimes he is wrong, and finds it out
after, or during, the operation, when it
is too late.
Many women have (found that, by
taking Wine of Cardui, they have been
able to prevent an operation which their
doctor had thought necessary, owing to
the wonderful curative effect Wine of
Cardui proved itself to have, on their
organs and functions.
JOf such is the well-known case of Mrs.
Blanche E. Stephanou, of 1228 S. 42nd
Ave., Chicago, 111., wife of Lawyer John
Stephanou, President of the Greek So
ciety Arcada, of that city. In a recent
letter, describing her case, she writes:
“Five years ago, the birth of my baby
left me in a very bad state. I suffered
with a constant backache, and had sucn
a miserable bearing down feeling every
month. I also had a pain in my side,
and am almost unable to describe how
miserable I felt.
“Os course, living in a large city like
Chicago, I received treatment from some
of the finest doctors in the city, which
did me no good. After spending hun
dreds of dollars, my husband engaged
one of the best women specialists here.
He suggested an operation right away,
but I would not consent. After suffer
ing like this for years, a very dear friend
advised me to take Wine of Cardui, and
from the very first bottle I can truth
fully say I began to improve. I have
now taken eight bottles and look and
feel like a different person. My pains
are gone, I am getting stout, eat well
and can now wear my corset, which I
have not been able to do since I was first
taken sick.
This letter proves that it is sometimes
best to try the Cardui Home Treatment
first, before consenting to an opera
tion.
If your case is like it, why not try
Wine of Cardui for your troubles! <

Broken Down
Over-work, worry, mental ef
fort, sickness or any strain upon
the nervous system affects the
whole body. All the organs de
pend upon the nerves for strength.
If they don’t get it they can’t do
the work demanded of them.
Dr. Miles’ Nervine restores nerv
ous energy, and builds up the
broken down system.
“Two years ago my wife was almost
at the point of death with nervous pros
tration, I shall never forget how she
suffered, it was night and day, until we
commenced to use Dr. Miles’ Nervine
and she speedily began to recover. To
day she is enjoying as good health as she
ever did.

She soon passes away! The son 13
sent for. O how guilty he feels! He is
a murderer in God’s sight! He has
brought his mother to the grave.
But, let me ask, is he as much to
blame as the saloon that sold him the
poison to his soul? And is the saloon
to blame for it, as much as people
are who granted the license?
This is only one of many thousand
such tragedies that occur each year.
Christian men of the Soutu, rise in
your manhood and demand that the
liquor forces be driven from the bor
ders of our territory. The solution
of the temperance question lies with
the Christian voters of our land. «vhat
will we do?

TWO UNIQUE EPITAPHS.
She was a spinster of doubtful age,
and though well meaning was always
causing misunderstandings and dis
cord among people she thought all the
time she was helping, and was indis
pensable to. She asked that after her
death the following inscription might
be put on her tombstone: “She hath
done what she could.”
Her wish was carried out, but some
what differently from the way she ex
pected. The following was the way it
appeared:
She hath done what she could.
Would that she had done less
To stir people up
And get things in a mess.
The other was of a similar well
meaning dame, who, on moving to a
distant part of the country, asked that
mention might be made of the fact in
the town paper, imagine, if possible,
her feelings when she read in the pa
per the following week:
“Mrs. Eliza Blank departed this
country February 18, for Mexico. Gone
but not forgotten.”
Affliction sore,
Long time we bore;
All efforts were In vain
To let her know
She bored us so,
And gave us all a pain.

Beware of Ointments for Catarrh that Contain
Mercury,
as mercury will surely destroy the sense of smell and
completely derang-e the whole system when entering
it through the mucous surfaces. Such articles should
never be used except on prescriptions from reputable
physicians, as the damage they will do is ten fold to
the good you can possibly derive from them. Hall’s
Catarrh Cure, manufactured by F. J. Cheney & Co.,
Toledo, 0., contains no mercury, and is taken inter
nally, acting directly upon the blood and mucous sur
faces of the system. In buying Hall’s Catarrh Cure be
sure you get the genuine. It is taken internally and
made in Toledo, Ohio, by F. J. Cheney & Co, Testi
monials free.
