Hall in the building of H. M. Patterson & Son, Funeral Directors
of 96 N. Forsyth Street, next Carnegie Library.
painted white, with green blinds.
From the porch you enter a room
reaching the whole width of the house.
It has ten big windows and reminds
one of a half room. But 1 had rather
tell you about the natural surround
ings of the home, as the house is like
any other well-built structure.
There are wide oyster-shell walks
and there is a pretty green lawn and
an avenue of oaks leads up to it.
From the oaks hangs the gray moss.
The house is built on a bluff and is
very near a small river. It is only a
short distance from the Atlantic ocean.
On the left is a lovely pear orchard,
beyond the avenue is a pecan or
chard. Great oaks shade the lawn
and drives and make it a delightful
place to walk in.
Very near the river they have ar
ranged a small pond where four tame
otters dwell. It is amusing to watch
tnem obey the commands of their
master. They will dive for a piece of
bread and swim across the pond at
his bidding. They are dark brown
in color and such pretty, graceful
creatures.
Near the boat house, where they
keep a lovely launch and one or two
pretty row boats, is the head of a
whale. The skeleton, I mean. It is im
mense. You could sit with ease in
the hollows where its eyes were and
when I saw its mouth all my doubts
vanished as to the truth of the fa
miliar Bible story. Near the whale's
head is an enormous iron buoy, wash
ed to the shore in a fearful storm in
1896. Its former place was in the
ocean.
The vegetable and flower gardens
were things of beauty and there is a
bee hive back of the house. I was
very much impressed with the beauty
of the place and hope you will enjoy
reading about it. It is situated on
an island not far from Savannah, Ga.
Sincerely yours,
JULIA IVERSON LANE.

TOO LATE TO CHANGE.
“I hear you have a little sister at
your house,” said a Chicago grocer
to a small boy.
“Yes, sir,” said Johnny.
‘‘Do you like that?” was queried.
“I wish it was a boy,” said Johnny,
“so I could play marble- with him, an’
baseball.”
“Well,” said the storekeper, “why
don’t you exchange your little sister
for a boy?”
Johnny reflected for a minute, then
he said rather sorrowfully: “We can’t
now. It’s too late. We’ve used 'her
four days.”

This corporation is capitalized at $25,000.00, and 1250 shares have been issued.
