With a laugh, I faced the crowd.
“Yes,” I said, “that is right.” Then I

DOROTHY IN CEYLON.
By A. L. B.
Dorothy was a radiantly joyous
girl. So sweet-tempered and full of
youthful gladness was she that those
who come in contact with this sunny
natured girl developed good qualities
and grew in beauty just as the flower
petals expand in the warm rays of
the sun.
Mamma wanted a pleasant compan
ion for the World’s Fair. She select
ed Dorothy, for she knew she was just
the girl to enjoy seeing the world in
happy movement.
So she set about to pack her
trunk, and in placing in the tray her
guide books, the best of all guide
books, her Bible, was not forgotten;
for, like Timothy, she had loved to
read the Bible from a wee tot, and its
precious promises had become as fa
miliar as if written upo nthe tablet of
her heart.
Their journey was a pleasant one.
In their party was a little flaxen
haired girl who amused Dorothy very
much with her droll sayings. She
played with a very odd toy: it was a
large green frog, which when pressed
would croak most dolefully. Dorothy
did not fancy frogs, or toy frogs that
were so natural. She always thought
they sounded as if they were grumb-

ling. Her favorites were birds and
bees that sounded busy and bright.
Pretty soon she saw many unique
toys and playthings, for near the
large gates was the Children's Build
ing. Near the door of this building is
the creche, where the tiny babies,
after being tagged, are kept until
their mothers call for them.
Mamma and Dorothy had a fine
time watching the babies, but there
were many things full of interest to
see in this building; for there were
the girls with their caps and aprons
m the kitchen garden, and the “Slojd”
school, where they saw the girls and
boys working with carpenter’s tools
and making many useful articles.
Dorothy was much engrossed with
the children in the kindergarten,
marching, playing and working.
Then into the dining room they went,
where a good dinner awaited them.
Dorothy growing very tired and
thirsty, mamma said: “We will go to
Ceylon and enjoy a good cup of tea.”
Very soon they came to a brown
wooden building on the lake front,
and mamma said: “See! This is Cey.
Ion.”
Mamma then sent up their cards to
the commissioner’s room in the little
cupola, and they sat in the quaint
room drinking their tea and enjoying
the delightful aroma which Dorothy
said reminded her of the old hymn
she had so frequently sung at mission
ary meetings:
“What though the spicy breezes
Blow soft o’er Ceylon’s isle?”
The dark-skinned Cingalese handed
them their tea, and Dorothy was much
impressed with them, and was anx
ious to know more about real Ceylon,
which the Chinese knew as the island
of jewels, and the poet, as a pearl
upon the brow of India.

Cured Me
“I suffered with pain under my
left breast, and shortness of
breath and nervousness. My heart
would beat very fast, and then
it would hardly beat at all. One
doctor told me I had neuralgia of
the heart, another said I had
dyspepsia, and another only a
weak heart, but none of them
gave me any relief. I was not
able to be out for four months.
I wrote the Miles Medical Co.
for advice, and they told me
to take Dr. Miles’ Nervine with
the Heart Cure. I took both as
directed, and entirely recovered.”
