INTROSPECTION.
It’s not the life I’ve lived outside,
Where folks can see and praise—
But, that the Father has the guide
Os all my secret ways;
The ways where light ne’er enters in
And not an eye can see;
The ways of mine not known of men,
Just my God and me.
It’s not the songs I sing out loud,
The easy uttered word;
But, that the eye above the cloud
Discerns the thoughts unheard;
The thoughts that grope in valleys
dim,
Or dare the heights to mount,
Thoughts of mine that are known of
Him,
’Tis for these I must account.
It’s not the page my heart unrolls—
The outside of the cup;
But, secret motives that it holds,
Which I must offer up;
Motives deep, like springs that gush
Unbidden from the ground;
Not the streams that roar and rush
And wake the echoes round.
O thou who boldest in thy hand
The balances divine,
Teach me to read and understand;
Make my will so like thine;
Till every thought and motive white
Will render praise to thee;
And all is right within the sight
Os just my God and me.

Live for others, thereby helping
others to live, and enabling others to
help you to live. Live true, and by
living true to others help them to live
true to you. The element of truth
plays the most important part in the
well directed life. The element of
falsehood plays the largest part in
the misdirected life. Deception is the
serpent that crawls across many lives,
leaving slime on all the elements of
character it touches.
Long ago I read lan Maclaren’s
books —a volume of short stories, and
I wondered how a man who had
preached “Christ” could ever bring
his pen to write so many deceptions.
I wondered how he could counsel de
ceptions, could advocate deceptions;
could exalt deceivers, and write of
them as martyrs and saints.
In one of his stories a young woman
lay in a hospital, dying, restless and
unhappy because a dearly loved mis
tress had neglected her. A nurse, in
order to ease her grief and restless
ness, told her her mistress had called
to see her, asked about her, and left
flowers and money for her. The poor
girl grew easier and less restless, and
died happier. lan Maclaren seemed
to think, at least he taught, that the
nurse did exactly right, and that oth
ers should not hesitate to tell false
hoods if results seemed to justify
them. I ask you, my readers, does
anything ever justify a falsehood? It
seems to me it would be a very queer

Hall’s Catarrh Cure is the only positive cure now known
to the medical fraternity. Catarrh being a constitu

acting directly upon the blood and mucous surfaces of
the system, thereby destroying the foundation of the
disease, and giving the patient strength by building up
the constitution and assisting nature in doing its work.

gospel of truth that would allow us to
tell anything that seemed necessary
to some ones happiness whether or
not we knew it to be true. Why, this
would be allowing us —mere mortals —
to usurp God’s prerogative and change
circumstances for others by misrep
resenting things to suit their ideas.
Wouldnt this give us too much lati
tude? Wouldn’t we be often tempted
to untruths which would make our
loved ones happier; or would keep
them in ignorance of circumstances
that would distress them? It seems
to me if it were left to us to de
cide just when to tell a truth, or when
to suppress a truth, it would be a long
step away from the God of Truth.
“Truth is mighty and will prevail,”
say many who wish to lay all respon
sibilities aside, and depend on a high
er power to bring things out all right
no matter what the deed of the indi
vidual.
Did it ever occur to you that each
individual is a part of God’s plan, and
that the success of good against evil
depends on each individual doing the
very best posible to live true? When
one life is out of time and tune with
truth, all the lives associated are af
fected.
Have you ever seen a lot of soldiers
marching, noted the rhythmic move
of feet, and admired the perfection of
it? Let one foot get out of time and
the whole line i so at of the rhythm.
Just so in the march through life; one
wrong move and the perfection is mar
red —not just for the one who makes
the wrong move, but for all near.
Don’t think any one individual is in
dependent. All depend on all—the
union of ideas, the community of in
terests, the organization of plans.
Notice the dependence of one on
many; the mill owner on the opera
tives; the railroad president on the
employes, the captain on the
sailors and the stokers; and if you
are just a stoker you are as necessary
as the captain if you do your part; if
you are true. Life depends on union
—unity, love, charity—but above all
on truth; true to your work, true
to your friends, true to your communi
ty, true to your word, true to your
family, true to your self.
People know you as they can, God
knows you as you are; and you are
worthy of your place in God s plan of
life only as you help others to be
worthy, and you can help others only
by being true to them, and so helping
them to be true to you. Live for oth
ers, and so unite with others in living
for God.

THE REAL MEANING OF EDUCA
TION.
Here is a splendid little article on
education. I found it in going through
“Brother "Willie's” desk, with another,
on the same subject, by another little
girl; I will give you that next week. —
“Little Mother.”
Why We Need An Education.
We are not going to school to sim
ply spend the days in whiling away
the precious hours, nor just to be able
to say, at the completion of the course,
that we have a diploma. Some par
ents tell their children to study their
lessons hard, so that they may learn
enough “to make money,” when their
school days are over. This idea is
wrong. The idea that we must get
an education simply to become a doc
tor, a lawyer, a merchant, or a drug
gist, is also incorrect. The real rea
son is this: we need an education to

LIFE A BURDEN
e
Pains, from which women suffer,
often make living unendurable.
If you are a victim, do not remain
one. No need. Most of such pains
are preventable, curable.
Others have obtained relief,
through Cardui. Why not you?
At least it can do no harm to give
Cardui a fair trial.
It may be the very medicine you
need.
Hearken to the words of Mrs.
Mattie Campbell, of Ratcliff, Tex.
She says: “Two years ago my
health was very bad. I suffered un
told misery every month. I ached
all over. Life was a burden to me.
At times, I wished for death, to end
my suffering.
“At last I decided to try Cardui.
I took one bottle and it helped me
so much, I bought $5.00 worth.
That kept me in health for one year,
and saved a large doctor’s bill. I
took six more bottles and now I can
say that Cardui has stopped my suf
fering and made life worth living.
I would not be placed back where I
was, two years ago, not for this whole
world rolled at my feet.”
Try Cardui.
