DREAMS OF YOUTH.
Sailing on seas calm and blue,
In the flush of morn’s roseate beams,
A vision, entrancing to view,
An argosy, freighted with dreams.
Lightly she glides o’er the waves,
Bearing heart treasures so dear,
To shores, which the tide of fulfill
ment doth lave,
The far distant isles of the years.

My dear Children:
A cold Christmas breath is whirling
around the corner and up the streets
of this busy city, and every shop of
whatever trade is all brightened, and
given a gala appearance, with their
red and green, and silver decorations.
It would give you a genuine Christ
mas taste in your mouth just to jostle
through those crowds of Christmas
shoppers with their mysterious pack
ages. As I watched them, anxious
anticipation written on each face, I
could but wonder how many of them
were preparing to give unselfish hap
piness on the coming day that should
be filled with unselfishness, if we
would have it speak of Him who gave
it to us!
Can we give unselfishly if we give
only to those of our loved ones from
whom we expect gifts in return?
Think about it! Think of someone
whom you can make happy whom you
know cannot return it.
Isn’t there an old woman, a little
child, an orphan boy, and, too, the old
“mammy” of the sixties, then the dear
shut-ins, that need all the different
kinds of sunshine they can get, from
every source? Look about you, and
plan to make this be really a Christ
mas of “Peace on earth, good will to
men.”
The time is getting “awfully” short,
as the girls say, and you will have to
make plans fast.
These are such fine letters this
week —you don’t know how I am lov
ing you and planning for the future
for you, especially our reunion. Just
see how many new members and sub
scribers you can get. We must have
a “great big” family by May, and it
will slip up on us before we know it.

Little Mother:
I am not much on writing nor spell
ing, but I want to tell you how happy
me and pa was when we read Bro.
Willie’s editorial on Atlanta redeemed.
Pa and me both shed tears of joy and
1 shouted and throwed up my cap; and
I am still rejoicing and the tears are
falling, while I write to tell you about
it. Pa says Bro. Willie makes him shed
tears of joy oftener than any man he
ever read after, and I say “ditto.”
I reckon there is a kind of a sympa
thetic cord betwixt Bro. Willie, and
pa and me, anyhow, but pa says Bro.
Willie has one on him because Bro.
Willie can walk on crutches while pa
has to use a rolling chair. Pa used
to live in Atlanta and he knows how
fond you folks are of excitement; but 4
he says, the lambasting you gave that
fellow Woodward is the greatest thing
ever happened in Atlanta.
Now we folks in South Carolina are
going to follow Georgia’s example at
no distant day, and we want to see
the good work go on till the whole
South is redeemed. Bro. Willie is do
ing a grand work. It makes me tired
to see how little some preachers are
doing. I know one who is afflicted
with weariness of the flesh, because of
too much learning, and he sits with
his feet cocked up higher than his
head and smokes his pipe and draws a
pension from the church. May the
good Lord deliver us from all such;
and may He bless Bro. Willie for the
work he is doing.
Pa is still shouting “Atlanta re
deemed,” and I must stop writing and
go and join him. Hallelujah!
ELAM TONEY.
Atlanta, Ga., Dec. 1, 1908.
Dear “Little Mother”:
May I again step into the happy
circle called the “Voices of Youth” and
have a little talk with you? I was in
deed surprised when I read of Brother
Willie’s great change for us, and pleas
ed to note that his sure enough sister
was to be our leader. I, for one, never
knew Bro. Willie had a sister, and I
hope she isn’t a bit jealous, for it
wouldn't do. “Little Mother,” you have
a wonderful brother, we all know. Ho
has done a great amount of work for
his Heavenly Father, and some day he
will hear his Master say, “Well done
thou good and faithful servant.” When
that day comes Brother Willie will
never need his faithful crutches again.
How "bright his eyes are, and how
clear and strong is his dear voice. He
always has a cheerful word for every
