OUR GOOD CHEER
“FOR THE GOOD WE ALL MAY DO"
* Conducted by TESSIE WILLINGHAM RODDEY. Long Reach. Miss.
CHRISTMAS GOOD CHEER.
Wreathe the house with evergreens,
Mistletoe and holly;
PiJe on the Yule log,
Make us all feel jolly.
Bake a high old stack of cakes
(Don’t forget the holly),
All the pies you can bake —
Make us all feel jolly.
Ring the merry Christmas bells,
Set up the Christmas tree;
Cover it with presents,
Fill us all with glee.
Listen to the Christmas bells!
Peal them forth again!
Joy and cheer, peace on earth,
Good will to all men!
CHAT.
Just think, Good Cheer folk, twelve
new members this week to gather
about our Good Cheer Christmas
table! And about The Golden Age
table as well, for all write, “We must
have The Golden Age and get ‘Good
Cheer.’ ” Now isn’t it fine to realize
that we are necessary to many peo
ple? How humbly thankful we should
be, and how earnestly we should
strive to make our department worthy,
bright, helpful and uplifting!
This season of “peace on earth,
good will to men” should find us with
ready hands and cheerful hearts, will
ingly helping in every way to give all
near us a happy Christmas.
Just before Christmas, several
several years ago, I moved into a new
part of a town. I did not know my
next door neighbors and, as rain was
pouring down very slowly and I was
very tired from the upset of moving, I
felt somewhat out of sorts. It was
Christmas eve, and I was all alone,
trying to sort some Christmas gifts
and address them, when a low tap at
the side door arrested my attention. I
opened the door, to find a dark-eyed
woman in a house dress, carrying sev
eral parcels. She said, in a bright,
cheerful voice, “I am your next door
neighbor, and I always get so thor

oughly imbued with the spirit of giv
ing at this season, and I am a stranger
here, so I thought I’d come in and
bring you something. I hope lam not
unwelcome.”
I let her know’ right at once just
how very welcome she was. I had
just been thinking how different it
seemed from the old home days, when
near neighbors came in to talk over
gifts and cards and new ideas about
holiday frolics, and I was beginning to
feel the difference very keenly as I
sat there all alone doing up and ad
dressing the small gifts I was to send
away; but this cheery visitor made a
change, and in a few minutes we two
were down on the rug before the fire
wrapping and tying parcels and chat
ting away about everything. She was
from far-away Michigan, had come
south for her husband’s health and
had been so sweet to take the initia
tive to come and get acquainted and
dispel all my loneliness and gloom.
She pinned with her own beautiful
hands a small tidy, of her make, a fine
looking cat, with the prettily done
words, “Catch On,” beneath, on the
back of my low sewing chair. The
chair is broken, but the gift is among
my most treasured keepsakes.
Christmas morning she came in
with “Merry Christmas” and a “mince
pie.” How we enjoyed it! She also
brought some rich sweet milk from
old “Bossie,” the quaint old cow. We
went in to her then, with cards and
handkerchiefs each for herself and
husband, and, though the gifts* were
simple, they made us all feel more
like Christmas and cheerier and hap
pier for the getting and the giving. It
is not the gift wrapped in perfumed
tissue, with yards of ribbon, that gives
most pleasure, but the simple thing? ,
that carry love and good will, There’s
always a tender spot in, my for

Christmas time; and so it is with all,
I suppose; arid let the season be one
of real pear- .and all good will. Don’t

Some ladies allow a simple little
trouble to grow into a big one, just
for lack of the right medicine.
Too much trouble; too much ex
pense; don’t know what medicine
to take.
All excuses ; and poor ones, too.
Such ladies need some one, with
their own best interests at heart, who
will see to it that they begin to take
Cardui at once.
Now, Mrs. Rena Hare, of Pierce,
Fla., luckily for her, had a husband,
who, she says, “insisted on my tak
ing Cardui.”
In describing her flight, she uses
these words: “I was a sufferer from
severe female trouble. I had pains
in my side, drawing pains in legs,
fainty spells, could not sleep. In
fact, it was a general break-down. I
found no relief till I took Cardui,
when the first bottle helped me and
now I am almost well.”
Your druggist will gladly 6ell yon
a bottle of Cardui, with full direct
ions for use.
It is purely vegetable, non-intoxi
cating, and reliable remedy, for all
women, young and old, who suffer
from any of the common female
troubles. Try Cardui
