VOICES OF YOUTH
CONDUCTED BY THE EDITOR.
OUR HONOR ROLL.
A reward of merit will be given to that
member who holds first honor position oftenest
in three months.
The letters will be judged as to thought,
composition, spelling and neatness.
Persistence, First Honor.
A LITTLE GIRL’S SORROW.
My Brother Will, he used to be
The nicest kind of girl.
He wore a little dress like me,
And had his hair in curl.
We played with dolls and tea sets
then,
And every kind of toy;
But all these good old times arc
gone,
Will turned into a boy.
Mamma made him little suits,
With pockets in his pants,
And cut off all his yellow curls
And sent them to my aunts;
And Will, he was so pleased, I believe
He almost jumped with joy,
And I must own, I didn’t like
Will turned into a boy.
And now he plays with horrid tops
I don’t know how t.o spin,
And marbles that I try to shoot,
But never hit nor win.
And leapfrog—l can’t give a “back”
Like Charlie, Frank or Roy;
O, no one knows how bad I feel
Since Will has turned a boy.
I have to wear frocks just the same,
And now they’re mostly white;
I have to sit and just be good,
While Will can climb and fight.
But J. must keep my dresses nice
And wear my hair in curl;
And worst —O, worstest thing of all —
I have to stay a girl.

NOVELS—TRUTH.
Voices of Youth: When we think
of the thousands of novels that now
flood our literature and rehearse in
our minds those old myths of Greece
and Rome, it is not strange that there
should be some questions and doubts
to arise in our minds. For the his
tory of these people is so strangely
different from what we might natu-

rally expect, yet indeed so consis
tent with human nature that some
have been led to very extreme state
ments. It has been the part of some,
supposedly sane, persons to foolishly
say that there is no such thing as
truth. We can readily see that this
is a gross blindness on its face.
Recognizing this fact as established,
we may think of its relation and value
to us. The blessed Savior says, “I am.
the way, the truth and the life.” And
indeed the nearer we approach his
teachings the nearer we come to the
truth. Practically all people search
for the truth, <but God only knows
who has found it. Scientists have
traced the laws of nature with all
the effectiveness of human skill; the
brightest intellects have been ex
hausted on the mysteries of “cause
and effect,” and yet the full truth
is not revealed. “It is not given us
to know all things.”
We are, however, given a slight
foretaste, so to speak, of the fruits
of uprightness that we may duly ap
preciate its sweetness. If we live in
full confidence of the principles of
truth, we will not err. But, if we arc
led about by the things that are un
stable and allow our passions and
emotional natures to become our mas
ters we are sure to come to grief.
However we may be deceived, truth
faileth not. The things of God arc
steadfast. ’Tis not a wonder that
Bryant, filled with an appreciation of
lhe value of truth and knowing the
blighting effects of sin, should have
written those inspiring words:
“Truth, crushed to earth, shall rise
again;
The eternal years of God are hers;
But error, wounded, writhes with pain,
And dies amid her worshipers.”
A tribute no less to be admired, per
haps, (the author of which is un
known) is this:
