“Christendom should begin to learn
that among the many things that are
taught, for example, in the schools,
the sacred duties of man in his rela
tion to government should occupy a
very prominent place. We say we
must teach the boys and girls arith
metic and reading, spelling and geog
raphy, chemistry and science, lan
guage and botany and history, and we
seem content to let the boys in our
schools, academies, colleges and uni
versities grow up without ever hav
ing tried to teach them the simplest
matters connected with the life of
the government of which they are
continuously a part, and in which if
they live at all they must take some
share. How many college gratudates
in the United States understand even
in a vague way the workings of a city
government, the details of the con
struction of a state. How many boys
in the high school, graduate with any
definite knowledge of what it means
to vote, or what the underlying prin

men for office? The time is very rap
idly approaching when a complete
scheme of any education unworthy the

laid upon the tremendous ethical feat

worth while.
Men are apt to say, even good men,
“We can not help ourselves. We must
abide by what is rather than what
might be.” Men are ready to say this
in the great cities concerning the sa

any great evil institution that has tak
en deep root. They say conditions
are such that they can not be chang
ed. “We must abide by the facts in
the case, and not deal with what
might be.” That attitude, however,
would keep the world back in all kinds
of barbarism for a limitless length of
time. If we yield to the common
sophistry that because a minority of

Mew to Get R id
of Catarrh
A Simple Safe, Reliable Way, and it
Costs Nothing to Try.
Those who suffer from catarrh
know its miseries. There is no need
of this suffering. You can get rid of
it by a simple, safe, inexpensive, home
treatment discovered by Dr. Blosser,
who, for over thirty-five years, has
been treating catarrh successfully.
His treatment is unlike any other.
It is not a spray, douche, salve, cream,
or inhaler, but is a more direct and
thorough treatment than any of these,
ic cleans out the head, nose, throat
and lungs so that you can again
breathe freely and sleep without that
stopped-up feeling that all catarrh suf
ferers have. It heals the diseased
mucous membranes and arrests the
foul discharge, so that you will not
be constantly blowing your nose and
spitting, and at the same time it does
not poison the system and ruin the
stomach, as internal medicines do.
It you want to test this treatment
without cost, send your address to Dr.
J. W. Blosser, 32 Walton Street, At
lanta, Ga., and he will send you by
return mail enough of the medicine
to satisfy you that it is all he claims
for it as a remedy for catarrh, ca
tarrhal headaches, catarrhal deafness,
asthma, bronchitis, colds and all ca
tarrhal complications. He will also
send you free an illustrated booklet.
Write him immediately.

The minister of a certain parish in
Scotland was walking one misty night
through a street in the village, when
he fell into a deep hole. There was
no ladder by which he could make his
escape, and he began to shout for
help. A laborer passing, heard his
cries, and looking down, asked who
he was. The minister told him,
whereupon the laborer remarked,
“Weel, weel, ye needn’t kick up sic a
noise. You’ll no be needed afore Saw

Leo Slezak, the great tenor, now sings for you in the Edison Phonograph
the same famous arias from the Grand Operas that the New York audiences
pay $5.00 a seat to hear. Just how great a singer Slezak is, is told in the
following remark, quoted from the New York World the morning after a
recent appearance of Slezak at the Metropolitan Opera House: “Caruso
now has a rival.’’
Slezak has made ten records for the Edison, comprising the principal
tenor songs from the more prominent roles of his repertoire—so that, while
the New York opera goer pays $5.00 a seat to hear Slezak in one opera,
with the Edison Phonograph and Amberol Records you get Slezak at
his best in his ten best roles, including Otello, Lohengrin, Tannhauser
Rhadames in Aida and Rodolfo in La Boheme.
Only on Arnberol Records can you get a full length rendering of these
great arias—and only on the Edison Phonograph do you get Amberol
Records. Hear these great Slezak Records at any Edison dealer’s today.
