over and burn the bridge behind us.
As far as we can we should make it
impossible to get back.
Third. Walk. He had to. be car
ried to Jesus, but he must walk back
to his own home. He was not to
walk to be healed, but must w r alk be
cause he has been healed. Sinners
are brought to Jesus in a helpless
condition. They can not do anything
to obtain salvation. Salvation is
God’s gift to them. While they are
not to work to be saved, they must
work after they are saved.
Fourth. He Arose and Departed to
His House. The man did as Jesus
directed, and thus openly testified to
the healingpporerw r er of Jesus. He came
to Jesus with his back on the bed,
and went away with the bed on his
back. “When the multitudes saw it,
they glorified God.”
Fifth. Follow Jesus When Called.
(V. 9.)-
Jesus saw Matthew, his sins and
his possibilities, and called him. Mat
thew immediately arose and followed
Jesus. He became Christ’s disciple,
His apostle and His biographer.
Jesus sees us and practically knows
what we are and what we can be. He
calls us, and if we will arise at once
and go, He will enable us to measure
up to our possibilities.
Sixth. Bring Your Former Com
panions to Christ. (Vs. 10 to 13.)
As soon as Matthew was saved and
transformed into a disciple he made
a great feast at his house (Luke 5:29)
and invited Jesus and also many pub
licans and sinners. He was seeking
to have his old business associates
and friends saved. We should follow
his example and seek to reach our
friends and business associates. We
should seek to bring all classes of
sinners to Jesus. The Phariees will
be on hand to find fault with us, even
as they did with Jesus. Don’t let
them stop you. Remember that
Christ came to call sinners, that He
is still here to seek and to save the
lost (Luke 19:10), that we are His
ambassadors to seek to reconcile all
to God. (2 Cor. 5:18 to 20.)
