7 HINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING
June 18, 1910, observes the Nashville
Tennessean, is a date to bear in mind.
It is also a date to write down, in
your diary, if you keep a redlined one.
Why?
Because Theodore Roosevelt return
ed to his own native shore, on that
date. Burn it on your memory!

And the Atlanta Constitution has a
word to say as to Roosevelt’s Third
Party. Such men as Garfield, Pin
chot, and, according to another daily,
Lindsey, will compose the new party.
It will represent the people. It will
be against special privilege. But,
it has to be formed and Roosevelt’s
policy is to take the built thing, and
to make it go—swifter. It is just as
feasible, just as germane to the situa
tion to speak about forming a third
party with Folk, Bryan and Harmon
as the leaders. Enough! The third
party is a dream.
The Columbus Ledger of recent date
wants to know “What Is Patriotism?’’
At the present time, it is not fighting
Great Britain, either at Valley Forge,
in the snow, as in 1776, or with the
Maryland line, resisting the advance of
the British on Washington, as in the
war of 1812.
It is not battling against Mexico or
Spain; or a contest between the Gray
and the Blue.
REVIEW.
JULY 10, 1910.
GOLDEN TEXT:—“The words that
I speak unto you they are spirit and
they are life.” John 6:63.
SUGGESTIVE THOUGHTS.
What should I do?
In reviewing the lessons of 'the
quarter, we will consider t' o leading
thoughts of each lesson and what it
teaches us to do.
Lesson No. 1.
Be a Witness for Jesus. -Matt. 9:
18-34.
Jesus is God. He healed all man
ner of sickness when on earth. He is
the same today. (Heb. 13:8). Go to
Him and be healed of thy sins and
thy sickness and then go forth and
tell to others the wonderful Saviour
you have found.
Lesson No. 2.
Be a Worker for God.—Matt. 10:
1-15.
We are called to be workers togeth
er with God (II Cor. 6:1; I Cor. 1:9) in
the great work of the world’s redemp
tion. As the Father sent Jesus into
the world, so Jesus sends us. (John 17:
18, and John 20:21). The Father be
stowed on Jesus the Holy Spirit to
equip Him for the work to which He
was called. (Matt. 3:16; Luke 4:1 and
14). The Lord Jesus will give us
the Holy Spirit to empower us to do
the work to which He has called us.
(Luke 24:46-49; Acts 1:8).
Lesson No. 3.
Make Your Works Bear Testimony
That You Are a Son of God. —Matt.
11:1-19.
The works of Jesus gave conclusive
proof that He Was the Messiah. There
fore when John sent his disciples to
Jesus to ask if He was the Messiah,
It is simply an observation of the
domestic duties. Perhaps, it is daily
conduct. An improvement in the dai
ly conduct of the individual means that
much increase in the moral force of
the nation. As Joseph W. Folk re
minds you, each individual American
is 1-75 millionth of a monarch. And,
in mind-mastery, in self-control, each
man may be a monarch.
“There’s nothing so kindly as kindness,
And nothing so royal as truth.”
“He that speaketh comfortable words
to mourners,
Healeth his own heart:
In his time of grief they will return
to remembrance,
God will use them for balm.”
Henry Van Dyke’s “A Psalm of the
Helpers” is the featured poem on the
front page of the Youth’s Instructor.
Dr. Van Dyke never fails to strike the
note of spirit-comfort. It is food for
the deep inner spirit, that we need
to give balm to its often intangible
sorrows.
Your place in the world depends
not upon circumstances, but upon you,
suggests the Upshur County Echo.
O. S. Marden in “Success” constantly
preaches the same optimistic doctrine.
He calls character, the Grandest Thing
in the world.
SUNDA Y SCHOOL LESSON
our Lord referred John to the Scrip
tures and His works. We, as sons of
God, should so live and work that our
lives and works will bear testimony
to the fact that we are the sons of
God.
Lesson No. 4.
Go to Jesus for Everything.—Matt.
11:20-30.
Jesus bids us bring all our burdens
to Him. No matter what the burden
is, sin, doubt, sorrow, remorse, sick
ness or anything else —take it to Jesus
and He will give you rest. He has
promised to supply all our needs, “ac
cording to His riches in glory.” (Phil.
4:19). “His riches in glory” are suffi
cient to. meet every need of man, both
in time and in eternity. So, if you
have need, go at once to Jesus and
make it known. (Phil. 4:6-7). If you
do not understand the Word of God,
go at once to Jesus and ask Him and
He will give you the needed wisdom.
(James 1:5). His spirit will guide you
into all truth. (John 16:13-14; Isa. 54:
-13; John 6:45).
Lesson No. 5.
Keep the Sabbath Holy.—Matt 12:
1-14.
The Sabbath was made for man, and
not man for the Sabbath. Therefore
to keep the Sabbath Holy, we must
supply man’s need on the Sabbath
day:
First. By teaching him God’s Word.
(Acts 17:2).
Second. By ministering to the needs
of the sick. (Jas. 5:14).
Third. By doing good on the Sab
bath day. (vs. 11 and 12).
Fourth. By worshipping God. (Ezk.
46:3).
Fifth. By attending the services of
His house. (Heb. 10:25)

“In some brighter clime
Bid me ‘Good morning.’ ”
The' World and Way tells a little
story of how one “Good morning” sav
ed a young man from despair. It is
a little word-sentence, that may keep
the wagon from rolling down hill, dur
ing the heat and conflict of the day.
It acts like a wedge. Remember to
say it. It may save some weary life,
from the Slough of Despond. “If
we would hear the Bells of Hope— let
us pull the rope.” Good morning!
n
Mrs. Julia Ward Howe, author of
“The Battle Hymn of the Republic,”
says: “I have been shockeJ to hear
of the prevalence of drinking among
society women today. The cocktail
habit, as I believe it is called, is the
curse of modern society.” She pleads
for the old-fashioned ideas, the old
fashioned home. Then will divorce
cease, and sudden voyages to Europe,
upon the merest whim, become a thing
of the past. Simplicity in life, in
conduct, in manners, that is the gist
of the matter!
On the Ulster steamship lines is
the trade mark of a bloody hand. It
is a symbol of victory! In the days of
James I. the Irish King Ulster died.
He had two sons. They were upon
an island, off the coast of Scotland,
when they heard of his death. At
Lesson No. 6.
Don’t Touch Wine or Liquor.— I’-ov.
23:29-35.
You may drink liquor and net be a
drunkard, but you are walking on .lon
gerons ground. If you never take the
first drink you will never be a drunk
ard.
To abstain from the use of liquor is
a guarantee you will never be filled
with the regrets that destroy the
peace and joy of those who drink.
The wise man will never take chances
where there is nothing to gain and all
to lose. The wise man will take the
way of perfect safety. To abstain we
are safe. To drink, no matter how
little we are in danger. Consider the
end of the drunkard’s life and never
start on the way.
Lesson No. 7.
Be God’s Gatherer. —Matt. 12:22-32;
Matt. 12:38-42.
As the Father sent Jesus into the
world to gather men for the Kingdom
(John 11:49-52) of heaven, so the Mas
ter has sent us. (John 16:28). We
are either on His side, helping Him to
gather men for the Kingdom, or we
are ajMnst Him, and helping Satan
to scatter them abroad and sending
them down the broad way to eternal
death. In your home, Sunday school
class, church, business and pleasure,
help gather men for God.
Lesson No. 8.
Have the Courage to Do Right.—
Mattl4:l-12.
Herod was driven by fear into first
one sin then another. Unless you
have the courage to do right, you are
standing on dangerous ground. If you
lack courage go at once to Jesus and
ask Him to supply the lack in your
that time, the eldest son did not suc
ceed to the throne. They raced across
the lirish channel, to see who could
place his hand first on Irish soil. Neill,
the youngest, fearing that his brother
would win drew his sword, cut off his
hand, and threw it ashore! “Sic
semper Paregoric!” Would you display
the courage of Ulster? Yes? No?
The Deadly Fly.
Hardly as large as the nail of the
little finger, yet able to carry 6,600,000
germs. It is a disease aeroplane!
And it carries consumption, typhoid
and other repulsive disease germs,
above its altitude rudder. It may
kiss the lips of a consumptive patient,
and then lly to kiss the lips of a
sleeping infant. It can dip its deadly
Lili in typhoid germs, and carry them
to impregnate the morning bread.
Then, like a ghoulish atom, it may
fall in the morning coffee, and form
a cup of poison, as deadly as the asp
of Cleopatra.
A COLLEGE FIGHT.
Trof. IL E. Smith taught in the city
schools. One day lie walked, out and said:
“I will build a great school without foot
ball or city evils. Schoo] men will hate
mo, but parents will semi their children
across the continent to my school.” He
then opened a college in a beautiful health
resort in Tenn. His words came true;
it was a long, hot. light; but now students
come from 20 States and Cuba. Smith
tells his story in a charming little book
fresh from the press. Our readers may
get it free by sending a card to Ruskin-
Cave College, Ruskin, Tenn.
life. Cowardice will wreck your life
for time and eternity. God will give
you the spirit that will take away fear.
(II Tim. 1:7; Acts 4:29-31).
Lesson No. 9.
Feed the Multitudes.-—Matt. 14:13-
21; Matt. 15:29-39.
The world is hungry and seeking to
astisfy this hunger with the husks
that s ; n and Satan furnishes them.
This does not satisfy them and thous
ands are dying with hunger and thirst,
and going out from God to spend eter
nity where they can never be satis
tied. Jesus is the bread of life. Jesus
is the satisfying portion. “Christ is
all you need.” Give them this bread to
eat.
Lesson No. 10.
Do What Jesus Bids Thee.—Matt.
14:22-36.
If Jesus bids you walk on the water
do as He says, for at His word you
can walk on water as well as on the
land. The waves of the sea become
as firm and as safe a walk way as
granite, at Christ’s command.
Lesson No. 11.
Have Faith in God —Matt. 15:21-28.
God is able to supply all our needs.
He opens His store house to us, and
bids us he’p ourselves. Are there
great mountains of difficulties in the
way? He has power to move the
mountains. By faith walk into His
power house and turn on the current
of power and mountains will be lifted
and moved out of the way. Have you
need of any kind? Jesus bids you go
into His store house and get what you
need. You say I need faith —then go
to Jesus, He will supply this need
also. He is the author of faith. (Heb.
12:2). He is also the “Finisher of
