much happiness.
You can think of the Old Woman of
the Household having a good time, be

old Mother Nature, so as to lay up a
reserve force for winter, when one
has to stay in doors and hug the fire.
EVery one who can should live a great

hammocks when the nights are fair,
but they don’t take to the idea.

THE WOMEN DOCTORS.
Recently I have been noting the
ministrations of a skilful and tactful
woman doctor in our neighborhood.
She attended a medical college in
Boston, and received a certificate to
practice. She practiced in the Boston
hospitals, and afterwards came South,
and received in' Atlanta a second cer
tificate, to practice medicine and sur
gery. She is very up-todate, and an
ardent and enthusiastic lover of her
- profession. Still, there are many who
think, because she is a woman, she
can not be as skilful and efficient as
a man, but she has proved her su
periority by relieving three chronic
cases of rheumatism and nervous and
spinal diseases, which two men doc
tors had given up, the patients in each
case being women. She does not wish
• to practice with any but women and
children, having made their diseases
a specialty.
Now, do not you women members
of the Household agree with me, that
Some Interesting Facts About Sum
mer Pests.
The “good old summer time” would
be without a flaw if it could be had
without the thousand and one bugs
and insects that always accompany
the summer season and torture the
life out of man and beast.
These bugs keep quiet during the
day, but the minute darkness comes
on and a light is made in the house
they begin their deadly work. It can
truly be designated “deadly work,” for
the bite of these insects is, in a great
many instances, fatal. This applies
more to the mosquito than any of the
others. The mosquito is equipped
with a long, saw-like bill, with a
needle point, that is rank poison, and
in this bill is also carried the fever
germ. The mosquito bite is, there
fore, deadly poison.
It is impossible to prevent their ap
pearance in the summer season; but
to keep them from biting you, or to
cure the bite —that is, by the use of
“Skee-ter-go,” an a-styp-to-dyne pre
paration. “Skee-ter-go” drives off
mosquitoes, gnats and all other in
sects, and kills immediately the itch
ing pain produced by insect bites.

A woman understands woman’s com
placted nature. Few female com
plaints are novel or critical. Many
owe their origin to nerves, a thing
which bores a man so that he can not
enter with sympathy and necessary
interest and attention into the small
details. Women bring to these a na
tural aptitude. They know that often
these small symptoms which women
patients hesitate about troubling the
man doctor with, are vital tendencies
like the small spot that betrays the
plague.
Now, nervous troubles —often
thought to be imaginary—are real in
nine case out of ten, or have a real
foundation —such as heart disease,
neuralgia, dyspepsia, insomnia, etc.
There are hosts of them. A woman
has to pay for being finely and deli
cately organized. Few men physic
ians have the sympathy they ought
to have with these female maladies.
The patient feels instinctively that he
does not sympathize with her, and
she often fails to give him her symp
toms in full detail.
Then so many physical maladies
have mental trouble as their source.
There are secret domestic griefs and
worries which cause lowered vitality
and open the door to disease. Often,
if a physician knew the source of the
malady, there would be a better
chance to cure it. A woman will con
fide this mental trouble to one of her
own sex if she feels that this may
help the woman doctor to advise and
treat her intelligently. I could give
at. least one instance where a good
wife and mother of children has been
saved from melancholia bordering on
insanity, by the sympathetic, wise
treatment of the woman doctor I have
spoken of.
I wish to congratulate Ben Ivy on
his marriage to Muriel. I think he is
a lucky man to have secured such a
bright and sweet-natured woman as
I have heard she is. I have never seen
her, but we live in the same county,
and I know friends of hers.
