THE NEW PENTECOST
(Continued from Page Tlvo)
by the money of that man who was
almost turned out of his church because
he would not give his money to mis
sions. That man claimed all the time
that he was under the guidance of the
Spirit of God, and time has shown
that he was perhaps right. We have
come upon a time in this country at
least when there needs to be put fresh
emphasis upon the fact that men are
not responsible to men, but responsi
ble alone to God. Let men know that
the Holy Ghost is their sovereign
leader; that He has a right to direct
their giving and the way in which they
are to use their money, and when we
come to a recognition of this fact it
will be far better for the Church of
Christ Oh, that men everywhere
could feel and know that they are un
der the government of the Spirit, and
not subject to the notions of men!
PENTECOST IN A HOSPITAL.
I believe that we were just as much
within the scope of Pentecost when
we conceived the idea of establishing
a Christian hospital as ever we were
in the midst of the swing and sweep
of a great soul-winning revival. I am
not underestimating soul-winning; I do
not have to explain my position with
respect to that. That must be the
final aim and result of it all. But I
am pleading for the larger vision of
the work of God; I am pleading for a
conception of the bigness of His King
dom, and that in every whit of the
Kingdom there is needed the super
natural manifestation of the Spirit of
Pentecost.
Somebody says, “Your church is not
giving as much money for missions as
it ought to give.” That is true, and I
am not making any plea for stinginess
or close giving, but listen: within eight
years our Christian hospital has not
only blessed humanity, healed the
sick, comforted the distressed, but it.
has sent to China two splendid young
women, thoroughly trained in Chris
tian nursing; young women whose call
to the foreign field came to them while
they studied and lived in our hospital.
And there are three other splendid
young women, perhaps more, there to
day who are preparing themselves for
the same field. Does somebody say
the Holy Ghost of Pentecost is not in
such work? Would He prefer that
some Godless hospital do such work,
and furnish nurses for our mission
work at home and abroad? It is non
sense to imagine such a thing. Some
body has got to furnish the workers;
somebody has got to feel that end of
the burden, and the Spirit is able to
place it where it should be.
I have in mind a woman who fifteen
years ago gave to a Christian college
fifty thousand dollars. She gave it for
the purpose of helping poor young
girls get an education. Since that,
time seven young women, educated by
means of that fund, have gone to the
foreign mission field. Tell me that
that woman was not under the Spirit
of Pentecost? Why, the sum total of
her fifty thousand dollars will repeat
Pentecost over and over again. And
so I plead again for a larger vision of
church work and Pentecostal blessing.
I believe that on that day when, on
the streets, there came into my mindl
the purpose to start a home for work
ing girls who had no home, the power
of Pentecost was working in my heart..
If such a work is for the Lord, then;
the power of Pentecost is for the;
workers.
Let us get ourselves out of that nar
row class that dares to dictate to the
Spirit of God how its work shall be
done. Let us fall in line with His
movements for the salvation of souls
and the uplift of humanity, and when
The Golden Age for December 15, 1910.
we have done it we will see that the
Kingdom of Christ is moving with
such strides as we never dreamed of
before.
The average man looking at Pente
cost sees the conversion of three thou-'
sand people only. Why doesn’t he
read further down the column and see
that it is just as much a part of the
work of Pentecost to care for the
needy as to save three thousand? Oh,
men and women, if we are lending a
helping hand in the name of Jesus, in
the power of the Spirit, we are co-part
ners with the disciples in the Pente
costal blessing. Do not let any man
rob you of this truth. Sister, in your
home I want you to feel that you have
the right to appropriate the power of
Pentecost to help you wash your
dishes just as much as I have to help
me preach; that power is to help you
make your bread, to help you rear
your children. Man, I want you to feel
that you have just as miteh right to
ask and expect the power of Pentecost
to be on you in your business as I
have to ask and expect Him to help
me preach or conduct a revival. For
it is often through these side lines that
the revival comes.
What would bring the unsaved men
and women of this city to Jesus quick
er than anything else? It would be
to see God’s people all living and
laboring in the power of Pentecost.
Oh, if we had that sermon preached
day by day in the home, in the nur
sery, in the place of business, in the
shops, in the professional office, in the
hospitals, in the school room! If
everywhere Christian people lived in
the power of Pentecost, the revival
would be perpetual.
This is what I mean by the new
Pentecost. The new Pentecost is the
old Pentecost adjusted to present day
■conditions. It is Pentecost adjusted to
your heart and to your life. It is Pen
tecost getting down to grapple with
your own individual problems, prob
lems that are yours. That is the new
Pentecost. Oh, God, help us every one
to have it and live it! It is positively
our privilege to do so if we will only
receive Him. Never mind the talk of
second blessing! if you have never
definitely received the Holy Ghost, do
so now, and there will be a new power
in your life. Receive Him, but don’t try
to dictate to Him. “Receive ye the
Holy Ghost.”
SAYINGS.

CHEESE STRAWS.
In the warm weather cheese straws
are a delicacy to serve with dessert,
and are more wholesome than rich
cake, as a substitute for which they
may be served. Mix one cup grated
cheese with one cup flour, one-half tea
spoon salt, a dash of cayenne pepper,
a piece of butter the size of an egg
and add enough water to make a paste
which may be easily rolled thin; cut
into strips seven inches long and one
half inch wide. Bake in a quick oven.

INTENSE
SUFFERING
From Dyspepsia and Stomach Trouble.
Instantly Relieved and Permanently
Cured by Stuart’s Dyspepsia
Tablets.
A New Discovery, but Not a Patent
Medicine.
Dr. Redwell relates an interesting
account of what he considers a re
markable case of acute stomach
trouble and chronic dyspepsia by the
use of the new discovery,' Stuart’s Dys
pepsia Tablets.
I wIL
■
He says: “The patient was a man
who had suffered, to my knowledge,
for years with dyspepsia. Everything
he ate seemed to sour and create gases
in the stomach. He had pains like
rheumatism in the back, shoulder
blades and limbs, fullness and distress
after eating, poor appetite and loss of
flesh; the heart became affected, caus
ing palpitation and sleeplessness at
night.
“I gave him powerful nerve tonics
and blood remedies, but to no purpose.
As an experiment I finally bought a
50-cent package of Stuart’s Dyspepsia
Tablets at a drug store and gave them
to him. Almost immediate relief was
given and after he had used four
boxes he was to all appearances fully
cured.
“There was no more acidity or sour,
watery risings, no bloating after meals,
the appetite was vigorous and he has
gained between 10 and 12 pounds in
weight of solid, healthy flesh.
“Although Stuart’s Dyspepsia Tablets
are advertised and sold in drug stores,
yet I consider them a most valuable
addition to any physician’s line of
remedies, as they are perfectly harm
less and can be given to children or
invalids or in any condition of the
stomach with perfect safety, being
harmless and containing nothing but
fruit and vegetable essences, pure pep
sin and Golden Seal.
“Without any question they are the
safest, most effective cure for indiges
tion, biliousness, constipation and all
derangements of the stomach, how
ever slight or severe.”
